No, you don't. Stalking is an art. You also don't tell them when you look in on them through their window as they change their chaddees.

choose a name which is so common that it becomes challenge for anyone who goolge you. then whenever they tell you, you will have at least one excuse to be flattered, that the next person spent some time and proved their googling skills

Googling ones close acquaintances nothing wrong in that. You can find out their accomplishments. Shows you care.
Unless topic was abt googling someone other than close friends relatives.

Look at it this way. For arranged marriages, relatives did the investigation for you. They would talk to neighbors etc to see if the potentiial groom is on the up and up. Looks like you have taken on this task. Nothing wrong. You need to know what you are getting into.

I'd say not, unless you find something you think you need an explanation for. Aside from that what are you gonna say, "I googled you. Nothing came up, congratulations." That'd be weird.
