google web accelator

Google Web Accelerator is an application that uses the power of Google’s global computer network to make web pages load faster. Google Web Accelerator is easy to use; all you have to do is download and install it, and from then on many web pages will automatically load faster than before.

Please note that Google Web Accelerator is currently in beta test mode. If you have any problems using it or have suggestions for how we can improve it, please see the Google Group devoted to it.

Also note that during the first part of our beta testing period, users outside of North America and Europe may not see much improvement in their web page loading speed.

note: Compatible browser: IE 5.5+ or Firefox 1.0+.

Re: google web accelator

hmm ... I believe the program works like a cache engine and wouldn't help much in case a user wanted to download something ... just my thought ... don't know much about it cause I haven't used it as yet :p ...

*I know know ... I shouldn't be judging a book by its cover.

Re: google web accelator

Okay, so I installed the app on me system. It doesn't work (well) for dynamic server sided pages ... atleast it never showed any enhancement (DUH!)... and as for static pages then you can hardly find many on the internet and even if you do the google accelerator will be no good because most probably your ISP will be caching it or your browser will cache it.

Re: google web accelator

why u need googloo to accelerate ur pages? get a faster ISP or a faster browser or tweak your TCP/IP settings. Dig me?

Re: google web accelator

yaar I was just testing out the new product and posting a mini-review on it that's all :p

Tweak the TCP/IP settings? what do you mean?

Re: google web accelator

These are tweakable settings. Are you on a broadband or dial-up?
For dial-up these as meanignless for all practical purposes.

Re: google web accelator

I'm on .... teen dabbay ... I mean uni's got broadband. Have you applied these tweaks yourself? I don't think they'll make any significant speed difference? Anyone else paranoid to this extent? :p

Re: google web accelator

yep i have applied the tweaks myself, prolly wont work on your uni account unless u have admin access. might work on your teen dabba ISP at home :D

Re: google web accelator

These tweaks were very popular when the 56k modems first came out. I applied them to my “state of the art” computer back then. I think i paid like $150-175 for that modem. The manufacturer actually had to send me a replacement chipset for true 56 k connection. It still didn’t work and we found that the wiring in my building was bad. So I moved. :hehe:
Talk about dedication.

Re: google web accelator

^ Yeh I can see how effective it is … :hehe:

Re: google web accelator

if I do this, my dsl will be faster? what do I have to do?

Re: google web accelator

i installed it and removed it .. Too many times it wud give me a local proxy error. But then again, its beta. I am sure the idea is sound and if Google's might is behind, chances are high that this will rock.

Re: google web accelator

well...it says "Thank you for your
interest in Google Web Accelerator.
We have currently reached our
maximum capacity of users and
are actively working to increase
the number of users we can support"

unable to d/l it
