Now this is one sick bit of progress. I understand that everyone is more aware of social media and open to spending time on the net, but I would’ve thought that people would be tired of “…yet another social media site”.
This story was posted on July 22nd so they must’ve added a couple more people since then:
"Although it’s still not open to everyone, Google+ has reportedly doubled its membership since Google CEO Larry Page confirmed the site had 10 million users in an earnings call last Thursday.
According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, analytics firm ComScore estimated that the network now has 20 million users. About 5 million users from the U.S. India, Britain, Canada and Germany round out the top five countries using the network, the report said.
People are never tired of an opportunity to whore themselves out to the world. Its how the world works now. We’re more public about everything and feel a need to share our lives. Hell, I think people are still using Hi5, Netlog and Myspace…
From a competition point of view, I’m all in favour of challengers to Facebook. God, I wish we can go back to the old Facebook though. So simple. I hate some of the new features which just seem like annoyances to me. Too bad for me, the largest demographic of teenage girls loves all that crap. Ugh!
How people find the time to browse twitter, facebook, myspace, youtube, google+ and god-knows-what-else at the same time is beyond me. I can hardly keep up with GS and MSN!
Yeah, its been about 4 weeks since it came out and even though invites are pretty easy to come by now, its not open to just anyone to go sign up. Once they do that things should kick it up a notch.
The possibilities of the various labs and Google services integrating into this thing are endless. And for some reason I feel its a lot more trust worth company than FB ever would. I think I’m not alone in that regards.
