Google Now

Alright, mods, I checked that we don’t have a dedicated thread on this though we have talked about it in several other threads. However, I do want to share my experience and if you feel we need to merge, please do so freely.

I’ve had Google Now on the Nexus 7 but really didn’t use it much. Since I upgraded to Jelly Bean on my phone, I’m telling ya, this be my new best friend.

It works in sync with your Google Calendar, your Google searches and soon it gets to know you. So for example, let’s say I have a noon appointment today, it will pop up a notification telling me that given the current traffic conditions, I should leave my home or current location at such and such time so I can make it to my appointment destination on time. It will also chalk out a map for me and link me to the navigation.

Then there are some standard “cards” as they call it such as sports scores, weather reports, stocks, etc. that you can choose for your personal display. It knows when I leave for work every day so it warns me ahead of time of possible delays, etc. It also recommends which movies are on and that I would like based on my Internet activity. It also lists my appointments for the day, etc.

Now some people may call it nosey or invasion of privacy but you can choose how detailed you want it to get and what information of yours you want it to access. I am loving it as a tool and feel it really helps put all my to dos in one place.

Please share your experiences :).

Re: Google Now

This one keeps getting better. Add to it some "Field Trip" parts and then integrate the new "Ingress" game and you'd be living in fantasy land.

Re: Google Now

Still waiting for my Ingress code. Can't wait, especially since I'm addicted to Second Life.

Here's another feature of Google Now I use a lot: Just type or say "email (or text) Tariq I'm running late from school" in the search field so a card comes up with his emails and all I have to do is click that card and boom! SO that saves me the headache of going into my email, typing the contact, and then typing the message/speaking it.

FOr some people that looks like fuzoolness, but since I've been using it, I dunno how to say it, I love it!

Re: Google Now

I want google now too! My jellybean hasn't been released! ugh :(

Re: Google Now

It will be, soon. Meanwhile, just enjoy this thread :p

Re: Google Now

Its hard to enjoy this thread :( I keep seeing videos and description of it and makes me sad I don't have it.

Re: Google Now

That’s how I felt too when “others” (= Tofi) would describe it. :naak:. Now I have it and the wounds have healed. That will happen to you too.

Re: Google Now

this is a little freaky. i loved it. last week it read thru my gmail and told me about my flights details. i never asked it to do that. thats a little too much for me i think.

Re: Google Now

Kanaydia, let me know what the exact model is on ur phone (Settings / About Device / Model Number). Its probably one of the following:
- GT-I9300
- SGH-T999
- SGH-I747

Re: Google Now

Queer, How can you say " I loved it" then?

You can turn that card off. It’s one of the defaults. It is programmed to help you and make your life easy not freak you out :hehe:!

Re: Google Now

well i loved when it popped up random stuff like bus timings for buses i didnt even need to know about, or the weather. but how dare it show me actual personal info omgz! actually now that i think about it it may not have been from my email, just the calendar. in which case its not freaky. i send myself secret stuff in email and i dont want google now or anyone pulling at it.

Re: Google Now

:rotfl: I do that too.

Re: Google Now

It also gives you updates on packages that you have received emails about. Talk about freaky.

Re: Google Now

You should do what the CIA director was doing with his mistress. Write emails and leave them in the draft folder :)

Re: Google Now

This google now sounds very stalkerish :sid:

Re: Google Now

It can be. That is why I said you need to set it up the way you like it to be for you. It will only do what you allow it to do. Pretty much like friends…you establish the boundaries. If you don’t set limits, they may chipkoo with u when u are going to work out and you don’t want to go with them. Only thing is, you can disable Google Now; hard to disable that friend person.

Re: Google Now

vhy you so eshmart?

So I told the Husbaand I vant the nexus 7 now instead…he  'ed

and then he randomly says “oh yea…work is giving me a s3…all management is getting their phones upgraded” (he has a blackberry right now)

Looks like the tides are turning…

Re: Google Now

So he gets to keep that S3 or are you exchanging your iPhone with him?

Re: Google Now

He'll keep the s3, I'm in the middle of my contract right now, when it ends, I'm most likely going to make the change..maybe there will be an s4 by then :@:

Re: Google Now

Lets pray mine heal soon too!

SGH-T999 and no jellybean hasnt been released from my carrier. :frowning:

Why does queer complain so much?
