Google Fi

I got the invitation for it . Well I don’t have the compatible phone (latest Nexus) so I haven’t bought it yet .

Anyone tried it yet ?

Re: Google Fi

Going from Verizon to Google’s “Project Fi”. A layman’s tale.

Re: Google Fi

Well its a good review . I was 'kinda' hoping for otherwise ;)

Re: Google Fi

Ya i read that but i think first it doesnt explain everything and wutever it does, i think it'll take some time to get working. Lets see how it goes.

Re: Google Fi

It's google's offering of cellular service riding on the networks of existing providers (T-Mobile may be one of them I think), and it actively switches between Data and Wifi so that you get continous service without consuming all the data. Your phone will seamlessly hop between Towers and Access points as you move around the country.

Basically...that's it. That's what I understood.

I have an invite already, but I don't feel like buying a Nexus just to try it. If I already owned a Nexus, I would've def. tried it. If I get access to a Nexus 6, I might try it just to see if it's capable of completely replacing my current carrier.

Correction: Coverage in 120+ countries because Google most likely has the same partnership with foreign carriers when traveling.

Re: Google Fi

Still waiting for the invite to come in... our Nexus is waiting impatiently ;)

Re: Google Fi

I have nexus 6 fully working with Google Fi. I don't feel any difference other than just everything is fast. :) setup was very smooth. I ported my number from T-Mobile and it was quick.

Customer service was like really friendly. Now I have started texting to Pakistan for free :p

Re: Google Fi

Send one of your extra device my way. Pretty please!!!

Re: Google Fi

I have been using Fi for a couple of months. The one big difference it has from Tmobile is that it transitions to the Sprint network and Wifi with a lot of grace and without any droppages. Most of the other features like wifi calling, international roaming (free texting and slowed down data) are standard with a post paid Tmobile account.

Billing is another advantage where you only pay for what you need. I have a standard account where its $20 for unlimited long-distance and texting, and then $10 for each gigabyte of data you use. So I pay $30, in advance. Last month i didn't use that phone at all and so this month my bill was only $17.50 (I have no clue how they calculated that). I also have my regular TMobile line which is my daily driver.

I wish this would be a successful test so they would move this to a more universal coverage with more phones supported. I can't get rid of my TMobile family plan as not everyone has (or wants) a Nexus6.

A gift from Google

Re: Google Fi

you got it for free?

I received an invite as well and have an older nexus 5, but it doesn't work there. Otherwise, it is a cheap plan.

The cheapest nexus 5 is 350ish I believe. I would get the 32 gb one anyway since I would probably have music and map apps on there.

Re: Google Fi

Yes they just sent it as a gift for free last week . I wasn't expecting that . Nice surprise though :)

In my first month's bill I got around $8 back , as I never used enough data . Mostly I am on wifi .
