Google Earth

Re: Google Earth

well finaly after numorus emails i sent them they have updated karachi with detailed images do check it out, also start emailing them to update lahore and islamabad is well so they do it quickly.

Re: Google Earth

captain1, can you try and get detailed pictures of DHA and the under construction creek city, i want to see how much is made.

Re: Google Earth

you won’t be able to see recent construction, they don’t even have ‘recent’ US images (4+ years old) so I think Karachi’s images will be old too.

Re: Google Earth

well they just updated them, for karachi.

Re: Google Earth

how do you know that pictures are recent? I’ll try to see, but give me a hint which particular block/sector in a locality will tell me that (construction of a building/houses). For Defense phases, give me some directions from Sharae Faisal

Re: Google Earth

sorry i dont know about karachi, but DHA is next to clifton to the right and creek city is on the waterfront of DHA, on the golf course. thats all i know

Re: Google Earth

anyone try locating the Great Wall of China on GoogleEarth? I couldn't find it. But I found the pyramids in Giza, Egypt.

Re: Google Earth

I tried with no luck, probably because not all Chinese cities are mapped in Google and also I don’t have its exact location (latitude etc.)

Re: Google Earth

Point at "40 20 00 N", "116 30 09 E" for the great wall

Re: Google Earth

I think I see though it’s not very clear. Does it run along a river?

Re: Google Earth

Guys, New here :stuck_out_tongue:
Thought I’d register over here and share my knowledge and works of Google Earth.
I’ll try to answer some of the questions, since I have been using the software ever since it came out (even tested the beta versions). Not to mention I am a Pakistani/Karachitian :stuck_out_tongue:

You need a good site where awesome google earth sights are kept? Try this one : http://perljam.net/google-satellite-maps/ (Click on the “See map in Google Earth!” on a sight)

Some questions I’d like to answer here:

  • The pictures are not recent. According to the Google Site these were taken in b/w the last three years. And thats true, Karachi’s pic is probably a year old or so (Seeing a certain nazimabad bridge is still in it, though it was taken down months ago).

  • They will be slowly adding a database of high resolution images, probably many more Pak cities will be added. So wait for the gold

I mentioned my “works” earlier, so here they are. Its a file consisting of Karachi Placemarks. These are all verified and done by me. Just download this file and open it (Google Earth is the default program) and VOILA! You have the cool sights of Karachi. Have fun.
The link to file : http://www.megaupload.com/?d=27F4DFM2

Just download it from there  Enjoy

Re: Google Earth

well gwadar picture looks very very old as there is no port or any signs of constructions there.

and i said karachi was updated recently cos you couldnt zoom into before and it didnt have the detailed pictures they do now.

also lahore looks very recent becauses i can see DHA phrase 5 completed and bahria town there.

Re: Google Earth

Zoom into National Stadium Karachi and u can see a game going on :D, a right handed batsman is playing :D

Thanx for the file Ramiz :)

Re: Google Earth

so how do you compare google earth with microsofts virtul earth

Re: Google Earth

Virtual Earth does not compete with Google Earth. It competes with Google Maps
I just wrote a review of Virtual Earth and Google Maps

Re: Google Earth

I tried that and what I see is almost similar to what I see of Lahore. so, now I have realised that the reason I am unable to see is that I need some sort of video card as someone else mentioned. Another problem I am having is when searching a place by the name, it says, “Location not found”.

But these directions are just not visible. Very very blurred. Just some brown color covers my monitor screen. So, it could be due to my machine’s specifications dont allow me to view.

Re: Google Earth

it has got nothing to do with ur video card. u need a good directx support for 3d buildings. the satellite images will work under any lame graphics card you have.

might be wrong though

Re: Google Earth

^ then why do i only see some blurred image. infact, there is only some brown colored which spreads all over my screen. nothing else. all my monitor's screen goes brown after it has zoomed to the point. why cant i see the clear image then?

Re: Google Earth

You have to be patient, it loads up the data from the internet.
