It’s Chrome’s second birthday today, and in addition to posting some fancy-schmancy images to celebrate Google Chrome’s stable channel has been bumped to version 6. For those of you still keeping tabs on version changes, it’s only been four months since Chrome 5 went stable.

The update means that all Chrome users can now take advantage of extension and autofill sync – both important parts of Google’s desire to keep your ‘browsing platform’ uniform across all the computers you use.

Version 6 also brings the new consolidated menu, richer content settings (JavaScript, plug-ins, notifications, and the like), and the first-run search engine selection screen. There’s also a faster V8 JavaScript engine under the hood.

No announcement yet from the Chrome Blog, but we’ll add a link once their official post has gone live. In the meantime, the Chromium blog has a breakdown of some of the more important security updates and feature additions.

So have you all updated Chrome?

The only thing i’m not liking is the skin colour (not being racist )…it reminds me of the old Windows theme (95, 98) colour theme…

I am on Firefox (Beta 4.0b4)

:smack:

Chrome is so much better than FF in terms of performance… firefox is extremely slow! :bummer:

OK, it may not have as many extensions…but the gallery is indeed flourishing…:snooty:

i guess FF is 2nd to none but we r force to use the google chrome thts wht is in our new company policy …:snooty:

Re: Google Chrome 6 goes stable, 2nd birthday celebration brings extension and autofi

I dont think so FF is slow.. I like it better and its as fast as chrome (to me) I run tabbed browsing and chrome makes another process for each tab and its same as IE. Creating more processes separately for each tab do increase the performance but only if you are using 3-4 tabs and I have almost (avg) 20 tabs running all the time.

Re: Google Chrome 6 goes stable, 2nd birthday celebration brings extension and autofi

You’re right about the new process part…:hmmm:…but i run around 6-15 tabs on average and don’t notice any lagging.

Re: Google Chrome 6 goes stable, 2nd birthday celebration brings extension and autofi

Latest benchmarks shows Opera is fastest for CURRENT WEB STANDARDS. however, for HTML 5, the Chrome outperforms everyone.

Related to processes, Consider you have 20 tabs open .. and one of that tab crashed, it will result in crash of whole browser .. unlike Chrome, where the particulr tab is crashed. I know you will say that the tabs would be restored but still, you suffered through a crash and now restarting the whole browser which will open that crashed tab again and it will crash again. So you gotta figure out which tab is causing the problem before next time, it crashes.
