Jang & News is the same thing so I think you can atleast expect the report appearing on "News" soon.

well they are not the same. Reporters are different... But anyways lets see!!

By the way it shouldnt happen.. Not good for pakistani cricket as Rashid-Miandad combo was working so well for the team! Rashid has been willling to go aggressive and innovative which are signs of a good captain where inzimam, though being a good captain against bangladesh uptill then, should concntrate on being the cornetstone of batting line up. We all know how India suffered when Tendulkar was made captain! He struggled under pressure and Inzimam can hardly afford it!

If giving statements against policies is a sole criteria then Aamir Sohail has been criticizing team management for a while now! He is still here, i dont think thats the reason!

I hope common sense prevails and it doesnt happen!

According to the newspaper report he is mainly being sacked because of his criticism of the selection cttee. If this is true than Rashid as a captain should have known not to make public statements but to air his grievances in private. If this report is true and PCB has leaked the information to the press before hand then it is a poor show. They should come out and make a full statement either quashing the rumour or confirming it. Yet again it is inept and poor handling of PR matters by the PCB.

Should Rashid be sacked, it is a difficult question. On the one hand he has led the team well after the disaster of the WC on the other hand I tend to agree with LM that the captaincy should be taken away from him after he was convicted of cheating.

It still remains to be seen that if the captaincy is taken away from him whether he will be played as a wicketkeeper only or is replaced by Akmal or Moin.

So shoaib akhter will also be excluded from the team because of ball tempering conviction once, you agree with this too? right?

We are talking about the captaincy not the place in the team. I have said in my last sentence that it remains to be seen whether he will be played as a wicket keeper. In fact I would like him to continue as a wicket keeper.

Kamran Akmal doesn't look so impressive as a wicketkeeper. As for Rashid Latif being sacked as Captain I happen to think he's a very principled guy and that one incident was not a black & white case of cheating. So that's not reason enough for me. The PCB seem to have far less principles so they should not give that as a reason for the sacking. I hope they can justify it.

it's all about results (kind of)...face it, though we beat bangladesh, they got the moral victory and in their mind, are only one matchwinner away from equalling our side. compare it to the performance in the one-days. it seems inzy's century may have a longer lasting result than expected.

i always thought rashid was being rewarded for being straight during the match fixing crisis and not for his true captaincy credentials. i don't think he's captain material. inzy is our best batsman, i say we give him a shot.

wat if moin khan is made the captain?will he prove better than latif?

^^ I guess out of 150 posts, you must have mentioned moin 140 times :)

well Moin should not be made captain, but yes he can be brought in the team if Rashid retires which i feel is not gonna happen! as this article doesnt seem authentic enough!

TOO bad Rashid is gone I will miss him.............
Aamir Sohail is showing his colors, He is kicking the only player from Karachi........ :( sad for the whole nation.

I think thats all BS, just like whenever a player was made to sit out we hear that he is not fit while a few days later same player will public announce that he was not unfit.

If selection committe really had any problem with Rashid criticising them or PCB publicly then they should have either given him warning publicly or sacked well before now.

DAWN or The News?

You sure about Rashid Latif criticized selection committe? If he did, koun sa gunna kar diya uss nay… like selection committe is full of angels.

p.s. Rashid Latif has been quite for a while… though he got his editorial on ‘sledging topic’ up and running…

hey where is Samberlian???, dude I am sure u must have something to say over this.???

Well now it appears in todays ‘the News’ Lets see what comes out of the bag in next couple of days !!

**Internal politics, clash of egos threaten Pak success against SA

*Is Pakistan Cricket Board chief on verge of committing the blunder of changing skipper on eve of Proteas tour? ***

The think tank of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) headed by Lt. General Tauqir Zia is scheduled to meet in Karachi on September 23 to discuss ‘important cricket affairs’. And one of these is the captaincy of the Pakistan team for the home series against South Africa.

The very simple fact that no responsible official of the Board including the Chairman, chief executive or chief selector in the last few days have been willing to state that Rashid Latif will continue as captain for the South Africa series is a clear indication that something is brewing behind the scenes.

If further proof is required that something is going on behind the scenes one just has to digest the fact that no one in the Board deemed it fit to invite Rashid Latif to the gala function hosted by the President in Islamabad the other day.

Members of the Pakistan team were rewarded with different cash prizes for setting new records or achievements in the series against Bangladesh.

**And the man solely responsible for insuring that the Pakistan team didn’t become a sham after the wide scale chopping and axing after the World Cup of senior players was neither invited nor rewarded for setting a new wicketkeeping record of 18 dismissals in a three match home series against Bangladesh.

It is unthinkable that the Board didn’t invite him for the function even if he was serving a five-match ban. It just goes to show just how internal politics or ego problems can dominate Pakistan cricket.

The cricket fan would be entitled to inquire just what wrong has Rashid done as captain or player since the World Cup to warrant such an uncertain future now.** Certainly, the ban on him is no reason to think about dropping him. Unfortunately, he is not aware of the games that are played behind the scenes in Pakistan cricket.

The truth is trouble has been brewing behind the scenes for quite sometime now because of constant clashes that Rashid has had with chief selector Aamer Sohail over selection issues and in some cases Tauqir Zia himself has been involved.

Rashid has been upset with the chief selector’s policy of changing two or three players in the Pakistan squad in every tournament or match since the World Cup.

Sohail, however, claims that most times he has acceded to Rashid’s demands in selection matters. Coach Javed Miandad, in all this period, has been a bystander since he has no say in selection matters in the charter of duties set out by the Board. The scenario took a turn for the worse a day before match referee Mike Procter announced the five-match ban on Rashid in Multan.

Just minutes after Procter had conveyed to Rashid and manager Haroon Rasheed that he intended to enforce a level three or four punishment on Rashid for a disputed ‘catch’ in the third Test, Sohail called a meeting in which Rashid, Miandad and Haroon were present.

** The meeting was held to finalize the team for the one-day series and Sohail started off by reading off 14 names that didn’t include Younis Khan and then inquiring from Rashid if they were okay. ** * That sounds true coz initially i also read the team on cricinfo and Younis’s name was missing *

**The same day Sohail had gone into the Pakistan dressing room and lambasted opener Muhammad Hafeez and, in the presence of Miandad, told him he should come to him and get some coaching as he didn’t appear to have improved his game in the last few months.

This was an indirect reference to the coaching abilities of Miandad. That incident, the hearing with Procter and Pakistan’s narrow escape from defeat in Multan finally took their strain on Rashid and all hell broke loose. Rashid gave Sohail a piece of his mind and staged a walkout from the meeting. ** :hehe: The row was also brought to the notice of chief executive Rameez Raja the same day and he hushed up things.

But the very next day early morning Sohail flew to Islamabad joined the Chairman during a friendly match in Pindi and all indications are that he brainwashed Tauqir with lot of negative feedback about Rashid, although he denies this.

By this time Rashid was understandably upset after having been handed down the five-match ban by Procter and grew more frustrated when the Chairman didn’t even bother to give him a single call and inquire about him the fight with Sohail or even pass on a message of moral support.

The other version is that Rashid should have called up Tauqir and clarified his position to him regarding his row with Sohail as he was at fault in losing his temper. Anyway, Inzamam was named as the interim captain and Junaid Zia, to the surprise of many, made the one-day squad. On what basis or on what performance is a question still unanswered by the PCB chairman or chief selector properly.

Tauqir on the other hand on Monday had the audacity to tell BBC radio in an interview that the media had put unnecessary pressure on Junaid Zia.

Perhaps he forgot the simple cricket saying: “A player can only perform as much as he is worth.”

However, since that day the situation only got worse with no communication being established between either Rashid or the General and in the meanwhile, not surprisingly, the anti-Rashid lobby or the lobby surviving on a policy of appeasing the Chairman had started its manipulation to get Rashid removed as captain.

cont..d from above!!

Rashid, as always stubborn and prone to irrational behaviour at times, had displayed exemplary patience and tolerance to avoid giving any statement in the press on his ban although he was seething over the injustice done by Procter.

But then he put a wrong foot forward in diplomatic terms when, after initially having turned down an offer from Rameez to file an appeal against the Procter decision, he got an idea out of the blue that he can file a case in the High Court against his ban and get Procter suspended from match-referee duties.

To make matters worse he even called up Rameez and had him speak to his lawyer, the former speaker of the Sindh Assembly Nawab Mirza.

Rashid then sent a letter to the Chairman outlining why he wanted to file the case and other grievances.

The Chairman, it is said, was upset with the language of the letter.

There is no doubt that Rashid could have avoided writing the letter to Tauqir and the unnecessary fuss about filing a case but than the Board didn’t diffuse matters by not inviting him for the President’s function or by Chairman refusal to speak to him.

Unfortunately, all the above incidents and some other internal bickering has now led to the situation where Rashid is on trial by the Chairman and his band of merry men.

Some newspapers have already announced that Inzamam will continue as captain and Moin Khan is being recalled for the South Africa series..

If this happens perhaps the Chairman, his chief executive or chief selector have no inkling of the problems that will then result in the team and cricket set-up.

Already, the situation behind the scenes is not a cosy one at all.

Miandad during his stay in Pindi for the fourth one-dayer tried his best to get Tauqir Zia to have a meeting with him and listen to him. This has not happened so far.

Miandad, it is no secret, is also not happy with the overbearing attitude of Aamer Sohail and his irrational selection decisions or the non-responsive attitude of the Chairman.

And no matter how Sohail or Tauqir might try to justify playing Junaid Zia, the fact is that there is no one in Pakistan except a few who are convinced that the junior Zia played on merit otherwise the youngster, who surely cannot be blamed for finding himself in such a situation, would not have faced the sort of harassment he had to face from the crowds in all the four matches he played. (tutututututu)

Since Tauqir took over as Chairman in November 1999, he has changed four captains and atleast four coaches and all of them have been sacked in unceremonious circumstances.

The backlash of these decisions has been reflected in the performances of the team.

Now, just when the team appears to be heading in the right direction under the leadership of Rashid Latif, the Chairman apparently is thinking about another change - all based on ego problems. :smack:

One can only advise him against making any unnecessary or unjustified changes at this crucial juncture because if the Pakistan team has performed poorly in its last few home series it is only because a similar scenario of intrigues, ego problems and uncertainty existed then.

One would not like to see another repeat against South Africa.

Thankfully, since Rashid took over there have been no personality problems in the team, he he has also made an effort to work alongside with Miandad and Haroon with considerable success.

If Rashid has not seen eye to eye with Sohail, at one time the best of friends, it is because for some strange reason neither of them has seen the wisdom of sitting together and discussing frankly the team composition before making any announcements.

** What is most tragic about this whole scenario is that after the World Cup the Chairman could not have assembled a group of more honest and committed people than Rashid, Miandad, Haroon and Sohail to put things right in the team. Yet things appear to have gone wrong. ** * This is soooooooooo very true :frowning: *

True, Rashid can be very stubborn, blunt and irrational at times, but let there be no confusion about the fact that he is totally committed to the good of Pakistan cricket and at this stage Pakistan cricket needs him at the helm of affairs.

He is the one who has encouraged the youngsters, introduced a culture of discipline and performance based selection in the team.

If he wrote a letter to the ICC recently on match fixing, he had his logical reasons and the less said about it the better. Rashid is nobody’s fool and achieved the target he wanted to achieve by raising the bogey of match-fixing with the ICC.

If he is angry with Sohail there are reasons for that also. All this can be sorted out in a rational manner - by sitting down together and discussing things out in a mature way.

But let not the Pakistan team or Pakistan cricket should be made the scapegoat over a few ego problems because the team is not the personal property of either Tauqir Zia, Aamer Sohail or even Rashid Latif.

It represents millions of Pakistanis so let us not take the masses for a ride again…

If even the least bit of spice in this article is true then it is a sorry state for pakistan cricket. The fact that Aamir Sohail, Miandad and Rahisd all have strong-headed personalities might have made the situation worse, and come to think of the fact that Rashid and Aamir sohail were best of friends in allied bank and during that whole match-fixing saga...

Sad, sad , sad !! I really hope that this aint gonna happen and some common sense prevails !!

^^ gd article this one. lets see wat happens... !!

seems to be main problem with amir sohail and tauqeer zia!

Really sorry state of affairs... and I believe in the authenticity of this article as Waheed Khan is a very knowledgeable, respected and experienced journalist. As much as I am personally against Rashid Latif, I feel this is not the way to treat him and that he should be allowed to continue as captain as he, Javed bhai and Haroon Rashid form a very good team thats bent on ensuring that Pakistan succeeds. Ignoring a sincere person like Rashid is both sad and bad. Just a few days ago, Inzamam wasn't good enough to play... I wonder what if, god forbid, he is down on his form again... Will Amer Sohail captain the team then???

Rashid discusses vital issues with Rameez, Sohail at NSK](http://www.jang.com.pk/thenews/)

"By our correspondent

KARACHI: Pakistan’s wicketkeeper batsman Rashid Latif spent a productive and positive day at the National Stadium on Sunday. It was a day that should help clear his communication channels with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman and chief selector.

Rashid had a detailed discussion with PCB chief executive Rameez Raja and also met with Sohail at the stadium, both of whom were commenting as experts on the match against Bangladesh.

Rashid, whose future as captain and playing member of the Pakistan team have been put under a shadow after he was banned for five One-day Internationals by match referee Mike Procter, and owing to some communication problems with the Chairman Lt. General Tauqir Zia and the chief selector, is said to have discussed in detail his grievances and the reasons for his recent actions with Rameez.

Rameez, it is understood, told him that he was required as captain of the Pakistan team for coming matches but he needed to be more diplomatic and accommodating with others and that he should always keep communication channels open with the Board and selectors.

Tauqir Zia was scheduled to chair a meeting with Rameez and the national selectors in Karachi on Tuesday to announce the team and captain for the South Africa series but that meeting has now been called off due to the cancellation of the tour by the South Africans.

Rashid, however, was very happy with the gesture of his teammates to dedicate the five matches series win to him after his five matches ban. “I am grateful to them for their bold gesture. It was very thoughtful and nice of them and the fact that we have won 5-0 makes it more pleasing,” he said.

“The gesture also shows that the players and team management was behind me at a time when I was down after the ban imposed on me,” he stated.

The anti-Rashid Latif lobby has been working overtime to influence the Chairman to bring about a change in the captaincy and recall Moin Khan as wicketkeeper of the senior team. But sources said that Rameez had been strongly supporting Rashid’s retention as captain.
