For years I have been around Gupshup, and heard how many people believed Americas Foreign Policy was at odds with Americas core values. Why did we back the Shah, ignore Saddam, ignore the abuses of the Saudi Royal family? The best answer was that in the Middle East, only “Strongmen” could rule, of course implying that Arabs were incapable of responsible self-rule. Some of what Bush is saying on this European tour is actually pretty remarkable. Here is one sound bite from today:
“You know, for years, there was a sense that we could tolerate tyranny for the sake of energy. And yet beneath the surface of that policy lurked this hatred and feeling of oppression and frustration and hopelessness, which lended itself to an ideology of hatred that ended up manifesting their hatred on America.” http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A46687-2005Feb23_3.html
Frankly this is as close as it gets for world leaders to admit the mistakes of their government. Really sort of a remarkable off the cuff comment. This has to have the Saudis shaking in thier boots. Jordan needs to rethink things. Syria now knows that occupying foreign lands for 15 years will not continue for the next 15. years. Kuwaitis and Qatar and UAE, and Bharain all must keep moving in a positive direction with some speed. Despite our growing dependence on Russian oil, Bush is taking shots at Putin backtracking from democratic freedom. The man is not on a charm offensive, he is on a liberty offensive. If it works, and frankly, it could either fail miserably, or erupt in a flurry of remarkable political processes, it will be one of the most remarkable periods in the world.
Never mind Iraq for a minute. This guy is preaching revolution! The first 100 days of the second Bush term is turning out to be rather interesting. The UN is being taken to the woodshed with resignations, and if he addresses Darfur, and the Sudan genocide, he will have pretty much covered the waterfront, with Iran and North Korea both brightly iin the spotlight. Iraq and Afghanistan have both had elections, and I have a feeling that four years from now the face of the world may have changed quite a bit…
We may be talking about the Bush doctrine with our grandkids, stay tuned…
sooner or later the chinese will be coming to give you a good spanking, until then you can bully the rest of the world.
nobody buys your "democracy" crap. We wll know its a dog eats dog world. and you are pushing us around cause you are more stronger. But your strength wont be there forever. Enjoy your last imperialist adventures.
The reasons Muslims hate America is because of her blind support for Israel's unjust actions, and because she meddles in the business of Muslim countries and world regions and tries to unjustly manipulate/take advantage for her own gain, that too under the facade of being friendly and helpful.
Oh siht its wednesday I was suppose to be on your side. OH boy this old age is creeping on me, well I try to be on good behaviour tomorrow..... Allah acha karsi.
OG is right Bush is shaking the foundations but the Europeans are still cold at us. It doesnt matter but its nice to work as a coalition even if it means two countries. I dont mean that as a sarcastic comment either. In a civilized world we need to work with nations such as Europeans or Union or whatever. I mean they piss me off because they make deals with our enemies Iran and all the muslims countries and you know thats not nice. But peace is good. There was never a bad peace nor a good war.
hmmm an here i thought you was saying g'bye to Gupshup.
I dunn think Bush really said all that. His speech writer seems real hard at work. still the european audience remained quite solemn throughout. But then they're not known for clapping after each lil sentence are they.
Verizon; you are officially disowned, sheikhsahab. your free to flip flop to the other side permenently.
The problem is that European leaders and rest of the world don’t really trust what Bush has to say. All his speeches he is giving out right now in Europe may sound all nice but Europeans don’t really buy it. US has no credibility after they went on war on the basis of lies and deception.
well obviously it counts to bush, why else would it be the first place he runs to after his inauguration or whatever you call it. no one else is gonna listen to him after he isolated himself on Iraq..
Yeah…I particularly like dwhen he told them what a bunch of fkwads they were for sitting on their thumbs while within hundres of miles genocide was talking place. These are the people we need to cater to..?
jaa yaar…there is no such thing as Europe as an entity. all the new republics are basically AMerica satellites and UK is our little mascot. French adn Italians can’t even put their war heroes on a pamphlet and germany wants to be so much like America, it is willing to change it’s name to New Mississippi.
Re Post #12
Iraq is a huge success. So will Iran. You guys remind me of kids going to dentist, look at the bright side he knocks you up with laughing gas, pulls your teeth out and you are all smiles afterwards. Dont cry and fight US we are in ME to stay for a long long long time.
Welcome and hug your new saviour. I think God made a mistake, the new messiah is actually US not some guy. Have a nice day..... ya'll
Look, in another 50 years the bulk of global GDP will be information led financial services. SO instead of worrying about the messiah or oil or fkin indian programmers...y'all need to convert to Americanism and get ready..otherwise you will be trading camel dung derivatives with syria and sudan.
^ Roughed up? From what I can we are kicking ass from sea to shining sea..and the fundos are on the run, democracy is prevailing..and Eu..yes..EU is still sitting with its thumb up it's bootymax.
