I have quite enjoyed Jhumpa Lahiri's short stories (Interpreter of Maladies) and novel (The Namesake).
And I liked God of Small Things by Roy (though I didn't like it as much when I first read it).

^^I was trying to remember her name. Sister of My Heart is really good, and there's a sequel called Vine of Desire.

I didn't like Arundhati Roy's the God of small things that much .
However, I do like her as a person. Pretty honest.
