Good restaurants in Scarborough?

I’ve been going to the same places over and over again in Scarborough and it has started to get boring/dull.

The places that I frequently visit are:

Silver Spoon
Shahi Karahi (not so often actually)
Chyn Chin Chinese Restaurant
El Sabil’s Shawarma
Halal Crown Pizza & Chicken
Halal Pizza & Chicken
Pak Centre

plus places like Popeyes.

I’m looking for a change. Any other good places that are in the east end of Scarborough that are worth trying?

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

Are you talking about the UK Scarborough or is this a different one?

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

pakwanchi is good..

chung moi (pronounced mo-ee) was great for chink food (halal)...

a word of caution bout silver spoon.. they are always having difficulty with the health dept.. :s .. open but under close supervision by the officials... tsk tsk

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

oh and.. aladdins :D .. cheegum and faizy are permanent fixtures .. so be prepared to bump into them ;)

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

Koi batata kyoun nahi?

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

coolmunda: she means scarborough, Ontario, Canada :)

other than what has already been mentioned, oasis (warden & lawrence) has some good for arabic food...fedricks (bellamy & ellesmere) for chinese food...and ghareeb nawaaz (markham & eglinton) has the best biryaani and boti rolls, but thats a take-out joint...umm...Ajmir Halal pizza (orton park & lawrence) is awesome as well...

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

I don't like Pakwanchi for some reason.

Chung-Moi, I've heard of it, but have no idea if I've tried it or not.

Aladins, lol never tried it, doubt that family would be interested. Will still keep it on the list though.

DM, what's good at Oasis (to eat)?

As for fredericks, was suspicious about them after eating there once. Called them, found out about their butcher and according to their butcher, they don't buy enough halaal meat, so either they're mixing the halal and haram meat or doing something fishy. Call and check again if you want to.

I also called a bunch of other chinese restaurants after finding out about Fredericks and got a whole bunch of unsatisfactory answers. Therefore, although I still would try chinese food at different places, but I feel at ease at Chin Chyn, as it's owned by a Bengladeshi Muslim.

Heard a lot about Ghareeb Nawaz and I'll try it out sometime, insha'Allah.

What's good at Ajmir Halaal Pizza? I'm not too interested in cardboard pizzas. People kept praising Madina Pizza downtown and it awful.

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

If one visits Toronto area for just one day, which desi restaurant would you all recommend that would be the best choice.

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

^ thanks, u lucky canadians

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

Oasis - i've tried their shawermas, they're pretty good...i love their shish-tawook...warning in advance, their platters are HUGE...even i can't finish a whole platter unless i am really hungry...they also have some good fruit cocktails...

oh, i didn't know that about Fredericks...i found out that Lucky Chinese wasn't halal so i no longer go there...i've heard Great Wall of China is good, but i've never been there, and don't know where it is exactly...and i've been told its halal, haven't checked myself...

As for Ajmir Halal pizza - their pizza and wings are good...they also have some gyros (the gyros are just ok though, nothing great)...bbq chicken, fried chicken sandwiches (like u get at popeyes) etc are good...they also have a variety of desi foods, including biryaani, karhai ghosht/chicken, seekh kababs...and of course, fresh naan...and everything is at a decent price...a lil while back when we were going to meet mad_scientist for the first time, we all went there to eat :D and just had pizza and wings, but everyone enjoyed the food there a lot...

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

what type of restaurant? desi? non-desi chinese/arabic/somethin else?

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

Preferrably desi - tikka kabab, nihari, haleem type

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

DM, thanks for the assistance with Oasis’ food.

lol I’d still be afraid of trying Ajmir Halaal Pizza. I’ve had bad food experiences at halaal pizzas. Most of them taste like cardboard. The only halaal pizza that I like thusfar is Halaal Crown Pizza & Chicken.

sky, this might be a good site for you just in case you decide to visit Toronto. http://www.zabihah.com/_region_intro.php?region_id=5

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

haha...i understand ur hesitation sadiyah :D for the longest time, i would only have crown pizza as well...tried ajmir the first time it opened (i used to across the street from it literally), loved it, and have been hooked on it since...and i've hooked enuf ppl on it 2 :D by far its one of the best halal pizza places in t.o.

oh and also delhi darbar (kennedy & ellesmere) has some good food, but most of the time they spice it up waaaay too much...if u ask them specifically to keep the spicies down, i'm sure u'll like desi food there as well...

sky: the link that sadiyah provided should be helpful...personally, i haven't tried haleem and nihaari at any restaurant...but for kababs, seekh/tikka kababs that is, i really like silver spoon as well as shahi karahi...

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

DM, lol I will see if I can pay a visit to Ajmeeri Halaal pizza. Tell me what's their best pizza and chicken wings. I get upset easily if the food isn't good. :p

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

Lucky Chinese. Its in a small plaza on Lawrence, 2-3 lights east of Markham Road. They display a Halal sign but i have heard from various people that theyre not halal anymore. But i guess it wont hurt to try their seafood (which tastes killllerrrrrr by the way).

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

Ajmeris pizza is good (nothing too spectacular though). Their party size pizza is hugeeeeee! Its like 20" or something.

So like no ones tried Madina Halal Pizza? Its on Danforth around Greenwood.. right across the street from madina masjid. Go there friday around jumma time and where you see a mile long lineup that would be madina halal pizza. :) Their pizza rocks!

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

sadiyah: i just order various toppings on their pizza  olives is a must for me though :stuck_out_tongue:

and wings, depends what i feel like…hot, bbq, sweet n sour…all are good :yummy:

Re: Good restaurants in Scarborough?

I don't like Pakwanchi. why? because their prices are high and they keep raising them. secondly I don't like their service and you will know why if u been there.
