good niyat

hear this many times but to be honest i dont really understand what it means
what does it mean to have a saaf niyat?
they say agar niyat saf ho toh manzil mil jate hai
is that saying those who dont suceed onke niyat saf nahe ti?
what exactly does having good intentions mean?

Re: good niyat

Good intentions are just that - good intentions. Wanting the same for someone else, as you would for yourself. If you’re actively trying to do good in the world, rather than just benefit yourself at the expense of others. Due to circumstance, situations etc someone may have good intentions but not be able to meet their goal. Or perhaps have a good intention but the outcome is negative - at the end of the day your heart/mind will be at peace cos you had good intentions.

Re: good niyat

perfectly defined :k:

Re: good niyat

Peace @Life01,

I think you’re talking about ‘objectives’ which are connected to the action of the doer him/herself or the action of others, whereas intentions (niyya) is connected only to his own actions. ‘Objectives’ refer to an action that the person is able to do and wants to do, whereas intention may refer to a person intending to do what he/she is able to do and what he/she is unable to do, unlike ‘objectives’ as well as ‘wills’, which have nothing to do with that which is not possible, whether it is one’s action of the actions of another.

Intention (niyya) more precisely “is seeking rewards from Allah or to do something in hope getting Almighty Allah’s pleasure”.
