Re: Good News:Pakistani students shortlisted for international software competition

reason I asked is this. In India I come across so many smart and wizard-like kids but somehow very little of those translate into new products. I suspect Pakistani kids are no different from Indian kids in terms of ability to innovate, apply math etc.

i wonder what the missing factor amongst us desis is?

Re: Good News:Pakistani students shortlisted for international software competition

^i wasn’t raised in india so i really wouldn’t know how schools are there, our teachers here have always pushed us to be innovative even if the method they teach math in schools in south asia is a grade or two ahead

but if you look in the 2010 awards section
two teams from india won see:****
Envisioning 2020 Award

**1st Place: **Jigga-Dongxi, Taiwan
**2nd Place: **KOLA, India
3rd Place: Target Locked India

Re: Good News:Pakistani students shortlisted for international software competition

yes it is picking up but still! let me give you an example. India has what, ten times the number computer programmers? when is the last time we heard of a new device or new piece of software product being invented in India that has become a Windows or iPad or even a better battery cell?

or take the fact that India has, by numbers 4th or 5th largest number of scientists yet what blockbuster drug has come out of there that is not a generic of something else?

I agree todays students are lot more enterprising and are not simply satisfied getting a job with pension, so hopefully the best is ahead of us. After all it is the Asian century!
