Good news for Pakistan cricket team Rana Naved declared fit to play in England

LAHORE: Pakistan pacer Rana Navedul Hasan has been declared fit of an injury and will play in the Test series against England, a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official told Daily Times here on Wednesday. Naved will miss the first Test at Lord’s on 13 July but could be in contention after that. It is pertinent to mention that Naved was diagnosed with a serious groin problem that would require surgery and a recovery period of three months. The PCB sent him to England to consult a specialist and get treatment in a bid to make him available for the tour of four Tests and five one-day internationals.

“We have got positive news today from the specialist. He says that Naved has responded well to a treatment and has shown improvement,” PCB director Abbas Zaidi said. He said the doctor had told the PCB that Naved would sprint in 10 days and bowl after 15 days. “We are hopeful now he can be considered for selection after the first Test.” Naved, 28, has appeared in eight Tests and 45 one-dayers and was in outstanding form for Sussex before his injury. Pakistan have already lost fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar for the Test series due to a ankle stress fracture. Zaidi said Akhtar was undergoing rehabilitation in Lahore and chances were he could be considered for the one-dayers.
