So I am reading the Qur’an the other night and I see how its mentioned about how one should continue to do good deeds, etc. I was thinking to myself what I do most of the day. Now that I am not working I sit at home all day and lounge pretty much, apart from the occassional job hunting, and household duties. I was reading/thinking how its mentioned all over the Qur’an how we should feed the poor, and pray. I am thinking to myself that I dont really do these things, so I count them as “bad deeds”, atleast with the missing prayers intentionally.
Now my question is, sitting idle at home…is this a neutral deed? Not doing anything, whats that count as? I think I read somewhere about how idle talk is not encouraged, so what about just being idle?
I also read a hadith that said something like someone who stays in the “mountains” in order to keep everyone away from that persons mischief is better than that person being in a town and creating mischief there. But this doesnt relate to me, I dont believe.
Idling is not neutral at all. It is a bad deed (or somewhere in that range) since it involves wasting time. Being busy and even trying to stay away from bad deeds, now thats a good deed.
"The devil finds work for idle hands" is another saying. What do you mean when you say you're not doing anything? Most of the time people are doing something or another (even if it's nothing), whether it's houshold chores, reading, sleeping, or whatnot. By not doing anything do you mean sitting and staring at the wall?
lol Sitting idle could be a rather good deed. there’s a proverb in Jaangli, my language, ‘‘an idle criminal is better than a criminal with a job’’
By the way, ‘remembering’ God is for those who forget him first. I don’t think thats the case with you Munni. I think you’re perfectly fine. On this forum, people will use the words like Haraam, Kafir, Shaitaan for just anything you ask their opinion about.
You read Koran and think about it, thats a very good deed. It makes you better off than most people here. Enjoy your life, enjoy your liesure time, do not let anyone make you feel guilty about it.
Aishaaa!, '‘an empty mind is a devil’s workshop!’ What will you call a devil’s worskshop in urdu? Shaitaan ka ghar maybe. Whats a workshop called in urdu? I don’t think there’s a word for it. You just have to pronounce it the paindoo way. An empty mind is a shaitaan ki *warak shaap *!
