Good Book..

Recommend one.. no particular interest in fiction or non fiction..

just something really good and preferably with roots in a desi country.

Shadow of the Moon.

(Mainly about when the British occupied India , -fiction.)

Midaq Alley by Naguib Mahfouz.

it's set in an arab country.

Non fiction- "A journey into disillusionment" by Sherbaz Khan Mazari - a good honest insight into Pkistani politics and the contemporary history of Pakistan. Good to get an understanding of our roots!!

Fiction- I am very out of date on that one as I have not read any fiction for a while. I normally try to read everything by Robert Harris & Michael Crichton.

House of God by Samuel Shem

a gem of a book. Exposes the realities of medical care. Very hilarious too :k:

Some good suggestions but a little synopsis would be very helpful

I ordered A journey into disillusionment" by Sherbaz Khan Mazari
So lets see how that goes.

i’ve heard great things about this book.
went to buy it from B&N, but they were out!

I am reading The Far Pavilions these days by M. M. Kaye, and I can’t seem to put it down. Considering how I have been extremely restless for a while now and usually don’t sit still in one place for long, this book’s worked a miracle.

For laughs, I had picked up “Me talk pretty one day” before my flight to Lahore a couple of months ago, and I found myself laughing uncontrollably in my seat much to the amusement of other passengers.

She also wrote Shadow of the Moon, and both books are really interesting.:k:

“Travells” by Michael Crieton :k:

Good choice- let us know how you get on with it.

u really should read it!

the “GOMERs” and the “LOL in NADs” are just hilarious :hehe:

chandra, dunno who its by but its about a girl who gets married when she is 13. it is fictional.

Hayaa, if you liked David Sedaris, check out his “Naked”. It is hilarious…

Also, int eh same vein..check out “Lamb” by Christopher Moore just as satirical.

I like history and comedy. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Shabanu Daughter of the Wind and Haveli are two novels worth reading they're set in Pakistan and based on the life of a nomadic Pakistani girl, and her life before and after marriage, its written by an American author, but I forget her name. Another novel is Homeless Bird written by another American author but this story tells the story of a Hindu girl and her life after marriage, its setting is in India though.

Hayaa, check ou this week's New Yorker magazine. There is short fiction tale by Sedaris.
