Golden sparrow

how Pakistan is Golden Sparrow for the west???i need ur comments…

Re: Golden sparrow

^^ Billions of Dollars are transferred from West to Pakistan in form of loans

These billions of dollars are stolen by the politicians and are transferred back to the western banks.

Now, the people of Pakistan end up with the big loans and die paying the interests on the same loans, whilst the money has already being transferred back to western bank.. so the rate of return goes around 80-90%...

who on earth does that!!!

who on earth does that!!!

Pakistani:D:

remain strong muslims army country

There is no doubt that "a portion" of $$ in-flow is stolen. However the %age is tiny.

here is why.

--- Pakistan needs HUGE $$ to pay for imports that feed 200 million population's voracious appetite for the following:

  1. petroleum
  2. Edible oil
  3. tea
  4. Industrial chemicals (that are used for commercial and defense industries).
  5. Paying the interest on short and long term debt**
  6. and the most important - Defense equipment and supplies used by army**

We do have occasional shortages, but by and large Pakistani awam can go to a shop and buy these items without standing in 5 mile long lines.

We should be thankful for the $$ inflow for that.

And we should never say that ALL of the $$ inflow is syphoned off by the politicians.

That's a very pessimistic view spread by the uneducated media, and we all spread the same filth without ever questioning the correctness of such info.

Man u are funny

we get loan on their termss, and for that "somebody" gets kick-back and/or commission, we pay interest on that commission as well and that commission is part of the principal account.

We make defense deals, agains kick-backs and commission comes into play, not to mention that half of the time these deals are made on borrowed money..

We borrow money and buy Road lights, cars and other fancy equipment, again kick-back and commission comes into play and needless to say, the amount which can be spent to build infrastructure for industrial+agriculture based economy, we tend to make it consumer economy, where we invite dozens of consumer banks in the country...

the amount of loan known to be written off is more than a billion dollar, the corruption done by Politicians and got away by using some silly NRO kind of ordinance just to invite the corrupt politicians back to country, the amount written-off by this ordinance is almost 2 billion dollars..and these amount does not inlcude the corruption done my bhagora Mushy and Shokat Aziz, by the lavish life-style they are enjoying, i believe they have done more than anyone else ever done..

Had the amount beend spent on the real projects, we might not be in the scenario where we are in...

and this is in the country where the so-called leadership and backed by so-called liberals who are dying to get an annual amount of USD 1.5 billion..

I am sure that u are going to comeup with an argument saying that had the politicians and other not gone corrupt, The very existance of Pakistan might have been endangered

No one can deny that a small percentage of the funds get abused.

We just need to keep things in perspective.

No need to harp on the aid. The reality is that Pakistanis "short sell" themselves by going for the $1-1.5 billion aid/loans from the West.

We should follow the example of Turkey/China and improve tourism and trade with the West. That way we can earn $100 billion a year from the USA/EU instead of being bhookay nangay faqeers and living on Khairat.

Re: Golden sparrow

Its true that percentage of funds absued are probably not as high as people might think, but, the way the programs are funded and run, many times leads to wastage of all the funds plus added burden of interest on the country.

It will be naive to think that just by becoming friendly to west we will get a trade boost or by trying to show ourselves as liberal, amercanized dollars wll flow.

Its a tough market out there, where everyone tries to protect their interests. Pakistan faced two problems that seem impossible to deal with at present. Securign water resources for agriculture, whih have been steadily decreasing per capita since 1947. And gettig enogh and cheap energy to run our industry. Chinese have huge advantage compared to restof the world because tehy are able to support their industry by providing energy at very low costs.

Becoming friendly is the first step for any business.

How many times you love to go shopping at store where people call you "Miskeen and Rafiq"?

The emphasis however remains on "business" and being friendly is a means to the end and not an end by itself.

Then you say it is a tough market out there. That's true. Who in their right mind could deny that?

There are good examples out there and we can learn to improve our situation from them.

Turks, Malaysians, Indians (with very similar resources as Pak), Chinese, S. Koreans are all slugging it out and getting their share of the pie.

Primitive tribals in the middle East (except UAE), and African tree dwellers however are stuck in the economic mud and they will remain there until they change their attitude towards this world (or in other words become civilized).

Choice(s) is ours!
