i went to buy few gold sets and all sold smiths made me real mad…
some said we will give u stones in weight some said we dont count stones in weight..we will charge stones seprately…
i dont understand how i can safe some money…how i will get cheap set..if i pay for stones seprately or if they weight stones in sets weight
some said we cut wastege 15% some said we cut 10 %…dont know why this 5 % differnce…

most jewelers charge separately for stones only if they are big stones. if they are small they usually charge them as part of the gold which yeh it really does suck but if u were to take the smaller stones out they usually dont weight much but still thats the way its done specially in pak. i know a lot of places dont do that in dubai, they usually charge for everythign separately.
as far as wastage is concerned, while making jewelry supposedly they lose some gold in the process (highly doubt that) but really if u look at it, they have to make money somewhere. the wastage depends on each store separately and i know at some places in pak u can usually bargain with them specially stores that do charge 15%.
all in all, dubai is a much better place to do gold shopping than pak.

I was told that if a piece is sold as 'total weight = weight of gold + weight of stones' then the same rule will apply when you are selling it back. I had the jeweller write that on my receipt so that he will stay true to his word in case I ever need to sell it.

^yeh that will only happen if u go back to the same jeweler and they honor it. if you take the same jewelery to another person, they will take the stones out and only pay for the gold.

sumurani...i just wana know if i pay sepratley for small stones then iit will be inexpensive or i take all small stones in gold weight then it will b inexpensive????
naqsa they will only pay u for net weight of gold..not gross....
i mean after cutting of wastage depend it was 10% or 15%
