gold and metal detectors

I have a question. I know that i may be confusing my facts, but i’ve heard that pure gold is not supposed to set off metal detectors (at the airport, in bulidings etc). Is that true? And if so…is that gold taht set off the detectors, is it completely fake or is it pure gold mixed iwth stuff?

lol…gold u wear cant be in pure form…it has to be an alloy.

and gold is a “transition element” metal…that is why you wear gold not sodium :smiley:

Pure gold (100% gold and nothing else) is known as 24 carat.
n 18 carat gold, for example, 18 of the 24 parts are gold and the remaining 6 parts are another metal, such as silver or copper.

Gold is the best conductor of Electricity...has the least resistance to current flow...hence is readily detected by metal detectors...........

why do you think all those beach combers carrying metal detectors......they do that........to find Gold and silver....both easily detected by hand held metal detectors!........................:)

These detectors transmits rays (such as X-rays) and if they strike to any metal it reflects (bounce back ) these rays back to the transmitter and at receiving these rays back it beeps! This is the phenomenon of metal detectors!

Any metal which does not allow these rays to pass on or absorbs these rays, can be detected by these detectors! ...

I don’t get what u mean it can’t be in pure form? Are we prohibited from it ? (like men are from wearing gold)? mujhe samajh nahi aa rahi :frowning:

no, its too soft.
if you made a bangle out of it for example, it would break.

it's true... actual 24 Karet (sp?) pure gold remains in semi solid state.

I think the simple answer is that the gold jewellery that you wear WILL set off metal detectors at the airport. Any other question?
