So when it comes to the time where you decide to go to the gym it is because you have a goal and want to change your body shape. Is it that you want to become thinner? May be you want to increase your body muscle? There are a lot of different exercises that go according to the type of results you want; however you should be careful with everything you do in the gym since it can be harmful to yourself. Make sure to keep yourself hydrated and do not even plan on doing a big effort if you did not get the energy for it. Try to eat something light before exercising, a banana for example, it has a lot of potassium and will help you a lot for your exercise.
In order to lose weight what you have to do is exercise in a way where you are working your fat out, that means you should be burning fat and cardio exercises are what you need. Running and stairs are a good exercise to lose weight. Make sure to exercise as much as you are able to since it is not good to force your body to do more than what you can. Now, if you want to increase your body size you might want to start lifting weight. Work out the muscles you want to increase and I would also recommend you to take protein because it will help you do faster in your process.
Taking care of your body is very important, so go ahead and take a try.

Re: Going to the gym to lose weight or to increase muscle?
Don't fat burn and gaining muscle come hand in hand?
Don't fat burn and gaining muscle come hand in hand?
Fat burn excercises are quite harsh and usually involve lots of running and shuffling, gaining muscles usually involves weight training excercises and for toning muscles there's a different set of excercise.
Re: Going to the gym to lose weight or to increase muscle?
^Hareem, that's true. However for me both cardio and strength training are equally essential, perhaps cardio a little more than the latter.
Don't fat burn and gaining muscle come hand in hand?
Almost..!
When you do weight training, your energy is spend in : 60% muslce gain along with 40% fat loss for the first 40 minutes. If you exceed your workout time to 1.5 or 2 hours then you'll see : 70% fat loss along with 30% fat gain i.e if you are fat and wish to gain muscle and lose fat in a single go then increase your weight training to atleast 90 minues but if you are thin and wish to gain muscle only without losing weight then stick to 30 minutes intense workouts.
Stay fit !

Howcome? lemme know your workout schedule. When you put up effort, you are bound to see results.
What I meant to say was that both should be done in order to reach one’s ideal weight. Thanks for the info though.

Re: Going to the gym to lose weight or to increase muscle?
^ This shape them up. They dont have testosterone to support muscle gain but instead have estrogen which keep their muscle growth under check.

Not that I'm saying that being muscley looks bad in any way (I would say it looks quite the opposite).
