Going to Pakistan

Usually when I go to Pakistan, I"ll take my makeup/perfume, sweaters if i’m going in the winter etc…toiletries and clothes/jewelery/shoes i’d buy in Pakistan. And of course some reading material and camera/ipod.

What about you guys? do you go empty handed and buy EVERYTHING there or take everything from here and dont shop from ther?E

Re: Going to Pakistan

I take my jewlery, makeup and shoes but I’m very reluctant to take clothes. I only take like 4 or 5 suits and then get the rest made there. Need spaceeee for all the shopping that is gonna be done there to come back :hehe: I normally take clothes that I’m sick of wearing and leave them there.

One thing that I always take to pakistan with me is "always" !!....

Can u even buy those in Pakistan??? I nearly had a heart attack when Khala told me she still uses the historic cloth technique.... shrugss let me stop.....

Since I always take them with me, I never had to shop for them so I dunno if any shop in Lahore sells them.... if they do, I won't take em with me the next time.

And I always take my makeup with me.... no good brand name makeup in Pakistan... even if there was, it could be fake!

Re: Going to Pakistan

Of course they sell them there...but I know a few people who still use that technique as well. I guess its more cost-effective..idk...ok ew lets stop there.

I would always (no pun intended) bring my stuff from here though....only because teh shopping experience..er...isnt the same as it is here. U know if ure caught off guard just run to the CVS/whatever store and buy it from an anonymous cashier)....not the same in pak...

Re: Going to Pakistan

I take my pyjamas, makeup, cell phone, camera, charger, toiletries, jewellery, sandals ( coz I always go in the Summers), money lol, magazines that I buy from the airport, ipod, sunglasses, hand bags, presents and 3-4 suits that I wear in the first few days. The rest I buy when i'm there. I also take some of my old clothes so I can give them to someone over there.

I take everything from here.. I can't experiment with new things.

Re: Going to Pakistan

I take my cell phone, some C Cards, my make up, perfume, toiletries, my sunglasses, my reading glasses, all under garments, travel bag, comfortable shoes/sandals, my hair dryer and GHD's (a must) 3/4 pair of clothes including some jeans, kurtas tops and dresses. SOME jewels, as i had a bad experience a few yrs ago where i lost a whole load of gold :-( after that minimal stuff! mainly buy clothes shalws and footwear from there.

Re: Going to Pakistan

I take everything. I have some new outfits made and maybe leave some old ones but that's it. I pretty much take everything I'd use on a daily basis here.

Most of my toiletries, you can't buy there so I have to take them from here. I hate most footwear in Pakistan so I take all my shoes from here too with appropriate bags or clutches. I take all my jewellery from here (even if it was bought in pakistan) and wear the same everyday stuff I wear here.

As for ye olde method, I had this 'debate' with another user in a health thread a while back. It's the best thing for the locals to do if they are used to it. They don't have proper garbage disposal in Pak and the 'modern' stuff doesn't disintegrate. Far more eco friendly. It's just cruel to make poor people live next to a dump full of nappies and sanitary towels that don't break down.

Anyway chin up, except for you earth destroying Americans, it won't be long before the rest of the world is going back to old practices.

Re: Going to Pakistan

I take perfume, makeup, toiletries, my mp3 player (I'm looking at upgrading to an ipod...I'm so behind the times!), money, phone (with charger), and other bits and pieces e.g. camera with super size memory card.

I have learnt from experience to only take a few suits with me to get me through the first few days only.

If I go over for a wedding etc I take my glam shoes and matching accessories from here.

Indeed hun you can, even in the smaller markets you can get them-plus loads of places have import stores so you can get the ones you get out there too.
