i m going to pak with 2 kids (6 and 2). i wanted to know hows the milk over there. i have heard that milk comes in ready make packs in many different brands and its pretty good.
i wanted to hear how mom who go from here with kids and weather kids drank it.
my kids drink oberweis 2% milk here and they love it.
fresh milk is not so fresh :( it can cause some illnesses ..due to dirty water in it.
yeah i know, but in india we have dairy farms right in the middle of the neighbourhoods and i assume same is the case in Pakistan [in India, they even bring the water buffalo to your door], i'm sure u can get milk without additional water added by the unscrupulous milkman. agree?
I have lived in pakistan almost my entire life and I have never tried that fresh milk. Like saadia said it can cause some illnesses and it’s not healthy at all.
my husband's best friend used to work for one of the biggest tetrapack milk company and the horror stories that he shared.. ranging from adding "surf" to the expired powedered milk that wasn't to be used at all.. no one in my family uses tetrapck and if they ever have to, they use olpers, we have had someone working in that company and it's considered somewhat better than the other leading brands in Pakistan!!!god knows!!
Anyway, whatever you use, make sure you boil it first!!!
that's why, because of those horror stories, i wud suggest that if you can get fresh milk [cow milked in front of you] go for it...its a better option, i suppose!

One of my worst gripes with Pakistan was the lack of good dairy products here. In the Middle East and the West, dairy is top notch, you get great tasting fresh milk, semi skimmed milk etc. However, the arrival of Prema milk has made things considerably better here. It is proper fresh milk (not the powdered kind) that has a limited expiry date and it tastes good as well. My cousin from the UK came here with his four kids, they lived here for four months, drank Prema and never had a problem.
if its a short trip 2 weeks or so,dont fret the milk better to go without rather than to have ill kids....
but if your staying longer still be careful,
milkpak and olper seem the better tetra paks
def dont even think about haleeb
and boil fresh milk...
i just came back from pak a few days ago... nido is the best option... other milk isn't pasturized properly.. pakistan is the only country where i have seen milk stored outside the fridge...
never heard of the brand prema.. never seen its ad on tv too :S went to pak didnt see there too.. is it paki brand sold in pak?
Well it hasn't been around for long and it probably isn't available in the smaller cities yet. It's a pakistani brand, I use it for my cereal and it's just as good as your local Tesco milk. Available in all the local bakeries and shops here in Lahore, don't know about other cities.
