My husband and I are going to Karachi in January 2016 In Sha Allah and we are looking to book a decent hotel for that duration. I have been checking Expedia and Hotwire but they don’t have many choices and whatever they have is either already sold-out for that time period or very pricey like it’s upwards of $190/night. Am I being stupid to find this price ridiculous or is this the normal going rate?
Can someone help me out please? What options do we really have?
look for 3-4 star hotels. 5-star hotels are supposed to be pricey! i think in Pakistan a 4-star hotel must not cost you more than Rs. 6-7 thousand per night for double occupancy.
Pearl Continental Hotel, Sheraton etc are around $180-190 a night, yes! There are some hotels on Share-e Faisal that are cheaper and not too bad, maybe around $70 a night but their amenities are not like Pearl Continental etc. You can aslo book directly from the hotels' websites.
i searched for rooms for two for 8 days in Karachi and this is what i found. this is just a guideline. you may pick dates of travel/stay to get exact amount/rates.
I actually never heard of booking.com website before and now when I did a quick search on it, it's giving me some really good options..so my question now is if this is a trust-worthy website? Have you guys used this website to book hotels before?

I've used this website for local (within US travelling) but dont know its authenticity in Pakistan. I would assume its still good for there.
Now two things to add my two cents:
1) Dont go for a medicore hotel. Sheraton/PC/Avari/Mariott are still the best options even if it turns slightly expensive, it'll be safer.
2) Google and contact them directly. A direct questioning will save you from a lot of doubts and uncertainties.
yes, wishkamar, book directly with the hotel or give them a call before actually making reservation online. @SID_NY has a point. it's safer to stay at a high-end hotels for your safety, security and comfort.
yes, book directly with the hotel.
PC, Avari, beach luxury, carlton, Marriott, Movenpick all are pricey but great. you can get a standard room in these hotel for around USD 160-165/night.
Hotel Metropole is mid-range hotel and decent. There are also Days inn and embassy hotel and hotel faran on sharah-e-faisal, all are mid range and decent.
I thank you all very much for your advices. Yes, I'm definitely going to consider high-end hotels only for the reasons you all mentioned. I actually did come across a few guest houses and mid-range hotels that were cheaper but man, did they look shady :S :S :S So yeah, those choices are definitely out the window.
Also, one my cousins was kind enough to contact with a few hotels to get me a quote and below are his findings. Very surprisingly and almost shockingly, PC Karachi is one of the cheaper options among the lot.
Another update is that it turns out that my mom will also be in Karahi a couple of weeks before we are gonna go. So she has volunteered to check even further and make the booking then.
i will keep you all posted.

Also, i have ALWAYS used booking.com as my goto website for booking hotels but i have recently figured if u call the hotel and speak to their reaervations team they can really offer u the best discounted rate for booking firectly with them!
Avari, Marriott and PC are best hotels to stay in Karachi and also quite expensive. I am not sure about hotels in pakistan whether it would be cheaper if you book directly with them but i have experienced in gulf that booking.com rates are cheaper than booking directly with hotels.
