going into labour spontaneously

Now, when I am less than 4 weeks away from my due date, I am scared to death with the thought of going into labour at home :bummer: This will be my second baby IA but for the first one, I was 10 days over-due and thus have NO idea how does it feel to have contractions and all since I never had any in the first place. I had to be induced in EVERY possible way to go into labour and the pains were totally irregular and bad…it was a horrible experience anyways.

I fear how to manage when water breaks or pains start ? My husband is a surgeon, mostly washed-up in the theatre. What if I keep calling him and he’s operating on a patient ? :frowning: What are the worst possibilities if it takes some time to get to the hospital ? CAN I DRIVE TO THE HOSPITAL MYSELF ? (I know someone who did as her husband took time to get back home and she was really impatient and nervous waiting for him)

HELPPPPP !!!

Re: going into labour spontaneously

No No Dont drive :(

Proto - I assume that you are in Pakistan. No dont drive Kinzz is right. If there is no one to take you call an ambulance. Keep numbers of ambulance services saved with you. When I was being rushed to main hospital for c section after my water broke , I too was taken to hospital in ambulance. A nurse and a dr went with me , khair my case was serious but take a not of ambulance service numbers and write it on a paper and stick it on your fridge or near your telephone and save those numbers in your mobile too.

wish u a smooth delivery

u and ur hubby live alone???dun u have anyone else to take care of u at that time???

Re: going into labour spontaneously

^ I was Thinking Same..

Proto Dont u have Saas ? Nand? Any good friendly neighbour??

Re: going into labour spontaneously

Proto can you get some taxi driver's number, who do you plan on leaving your kid with?

Re: going into labour spontaneously

ambulance is an option always but I dont trust if they’ll be there in time either.

we live alone. I have a full time maid with me though and she will look after my son until family gets there. MIL lives in another city. She will be there only after we’ll BEG her to come and I still cannot expect anything from her as it will be all ‘ehsaan’ on our heads and she will be in bed with all her sickness dramas so that she shares the attention too :nono:

Re: going into labour spontaneously

^ :omg:..

Sorry :frowning:

Does your MAid live with you?? Do you have a friend or someone who can drive u to hospital? or as Automne says..DO u know any texi around your area?

Re: going into labour spontaneously

You are in Lahore I don't know about the ambulance services available there.

Cheepa over here works very fast !

Can you keep a driver ? when you start getting labour pains take your maid with you and ask your driver to drive you to hospital. Driver usually do 12 hours duty !!!

Re: going into labour spontaneously

Proto,

check these guys out… http://www.metrocab.com.pk/

I have had some great experiences with them… but one thing … pls call them as soon as you feel the contractions.. don’t wait for them to be too intense…the cab driver might panic.. better u at the hospital earlier than later…

Re: going into labour spontaneously

I don't think you can or should drive yourself. Hope things at that time are easy on you, may Allah make your delivery easy and smooth, IA and bless you with a healthy and sweet baby. IA

Good luck with everything proto and do not forget to come back as soon as you can and tell us what u had.

:-)

Re: going into labour spontaneously

Keeping a part time driver is a good option. I can try working out on that..

Automne: i called them and they told i have to call them MINIMUM 2 hours prior to the time i need a car :(

Thanks for the wishes saadia:) i will surely get back with updates soon. GS and Facebook are so addicting. No one can stay away for long :D

Re: going into labour spontaneously

Prototype, once your water breaks or contractions start, you will still have plenty of time to get to the hospital unless you are one of those few who have very very quick labors. I know most of us have spent all night and sometimes the next day with contractions too. So dont worry, IA you will have plenty of time to call your husband or a friend to come. Hope you dont have to be induced this time and may you have an awesome delivery and a healthy baby, AMeen.

PS: i know in the US, if your water breaks, they wnat to baby to arrive soon like within 24 hours i think to prevent infection.

Re: going into labour spontaneously

Proto...don't worry IA all will be well. what about your mum? can she come? Or worst case scenario book yourself into hospital 1 week before your due date ....that way you'll def. have some care when you ned it!!!
Keeping you in my duaas.

Re: going into labour spontaneously

I was fasting when my water broke prematurely at home around 33 weeks around 8:00AM. My daughter was ready to go to school and hubby had left for his morning shift. Somehow, that was the calmest time in my life when I rang up my parents and asked them to come over. I picked up the necessary things and was driven to the hospital while I could feel the leaking profusely going on with every bump on the road.

But everything turned out well in the end so I learned that it pays to keep a level head in any emergency.

BTW, I think people around me were more shocked at my non-shocked behaviour than I ever was.

proto, you can hire a part time driver and keep everything necessary packed in a bag in the car. Prepare a small wallet of money and keep it aside and within reach so that you just have to pick that up when you are rushing out.

REMEMBER, the baby won't come out as soon as your water breaks or your contractions start so, at all times remain calm and keep reciting Kalima and Ayat-ul-Kursi in your head. Believe me, it helps. You'll have time to ring hubby up on the way to the hospital so, don't worry if he is not with you. Allah is always there with you with each breath so you'll, InshAllah!, be never alone.

Re: going into labour spontaneously

hmmphh..okay.. so it will take time once the water breaks until the baby is out right ?

thanks a lot everyone..that was SO helpful and reassuring :) please remember me in your prayers .

Re: going into labour spontaneously

Like everyone else said, just keep a level head and do not panic.. the baby won't rush out, if it does, that's even better. :) A short labor is always better. But don't rush to the hospital on the first sign of a contraction, with my second baby, I had Braxton Hicks several times.. Like i'd have contractions all night, which were quite painful and seemed quite real and then I'd be perfectly okay the next morning :)
Just keep calling your husband, and meanwhile call a cab too.

I think the important thing is to stay calm. Maybe if you read up about it, it will help you to know what to typically expect and how to react, and this will help you to stay calm and in control. Usually the more information we have about something, the less likely we are to panic and lose focus in the situation. I agree with the advice of not trying to drive yourself to the hospital -that can be dangerous, especially if you are hit with a bad contraction on the road!! Try to call your husband or a close friend as soon as your contractions start coming, so they are informed and aware of whats going on. In the end, remember that women have been giving birth for thousands and thousands of years!! They give birth with surrounded by a medical team in the best equipped hospitals, but also under a tree on top of a hill with no one but a goat watching them! What Allah SWT has put in the heart and body of a mother, nothing can compare to that! So dont worry, you can do it and you will do an amazing job Insha Allah! :hugz: May Allah SWT give you a safe and easy delivery, Ameen!!!

Re: going into labour spontaneously

Proto i think u should visit ur gyno n ask her to count ur contractions and chk ur opening too. coz only if the contractions r 10 secs apart u should be worried. Leave MIL wat abt ur family or some close friend, neighbour?

And most of all keep relax. rest kero. don't over work. everything will be fine. water doesn't always break no matter how strong ur contractions are.
in my last labour i was 3-4cm open a month b4 due date and i dreaded a premature birth but infact i got 9 days overdue. the day b4 induction i went for labour. so its a tricky game :)
IA things will be fine. keep reading yaseen, darod shareef n hasbunallah-e wa naem-al wakeel

Re: going into labour spontaneously

Lahore is big and well developed city, acquiring ambulance will definitely not be a problem, then their is rescue 115 service,.. when i heard pretty good.

Don't you have any other relatives, any friends or husband friends... or can your husband leave you some phone no's who you can call in emergency ?
