I know, it is different. Even living in Dubai I can feel it, specially if someone asks me where I am from. I always tell them I am British of Pakistani origin, otherwise people get confused later on. I do not have a permanent place of residence in the country I am supposedly from(Britain) so this is why it is hard for me. Well it might be a bit different for me considering I am a girl and I just cannot make the decision of staying forever in USA all on my own. So most probably I will be returning to Dubai after my masters.
Aww ok, so you fell in love with a person from USA! :)
it was a bit easier for us because home was always UK, and we went back every summer or winter, but yes having a place..your childhood home neighbourhood, and all really helps in maintaining a connection.
it is a strong aspect though, helps in this multicultural world. I still recall being an undergrad and being challenged by someone on why I thought i would know life of avg ppl better in KSA, and i had to inform them that I had spent years of my life there.
