Going 660

Will Barry Bonds finally tied his career HRs with all-time leader Willie Mays in MLB history? Sports channel has been showning live coverage whenever Barry comes to plate - so far he has hit only one homer - but today it could change as SF takes on Brewares!

p.s. Kerry Wood SOs 7 consective times to tied the franchise record. Go Cubs!

Bonds did it!

in front of a home sellout crowd - Barry Bonds hit the 660th HR - tied to #3 Willie Mays for third on baseball’s career list! i guess it had to happen when ESPN had to into PTI for his(Bonds) at-bat. :hehe:

i don’t know what Yost was thinking - having Kinney pitch to Bonds after he fell behind 3-0 - if the game is 10 to 2 then fine - take your chances with him - but with the game still in doubt i say it’s a stupid move - Yost did the same thing in Bonds’ previous at-bat - that time with first base open - and got burned that time too (run scoring single by Barry) - i m interested in his postgame comment.

p.s Giants won 7-5 against Brewers.

*San Francisco Giants' Barry Bonds, right, gets a kiss from his godfather Willie Mays after Bonds hit a three run home run to tie Mays' home run record at 660 against the Milwaukee Brewers in San Francisco, Monday, April 12, 2004.

the torch has been passed......

Wow! I’ve seen a couple of memorable Barry Bonds homers in the past few years but this was just just amazing. The monster 660th homer went an estimated 442 feet and landed straight into the water(lol with people swimming around in rubber tubes). I read that it was like the 28th time he has done this.

“When I saw him swing I knew it wasn’t a good thing,” Kinney said.

“Maybe I’m just too stupid to walk him every time,” Brewers manager Ned Yost said. “I’d venture to say there’s not another player on this planet better than Barry Bonds.”

there are a lot of reasons why it's important - just some off the top of my head...

1) Bonds has broken into the Holy Trinity of baseball; the Hammer, the Babe, and the Say Hey Kid.

2) Willie Mays is Bonds' godfather - this relationship, in my opinion, is the most famous in all four major sports.

3) There's a lot of pressure on Bonds to perform given his father's death and the impending Balco case hanging over his head.

Having said that - i do think it's being taken too seriously - if anything - 661 is a lot more important than 660 - and i sure do look forward for that one!

Bonds reached 661 - he is alone on 3rd all-time list - Next is Babe Ruth!
