In 1998 Mike Godwin made a sarcastic observation, it states “As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1”
So far this statement stands correct for most online discussions on numerous forums EXCEPT for our DESI discussion boards. For our desi boards I present Xeno’s Law.. here it goes
“As an online desi discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Indians or MQM or Pakistanis approaches 1”
PS:- I have this feeling that this thread will turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy pretty soon.
MQM??????????????? How did a political party that fights for the causes of millions of people, that has the support of millions of people come in to picture here?
Arleitter, THAT is the point.. it doesn't matter if it is relevant or not, it WILL somehow come into picture. Same as in any topic about a country's internal affairs, India or Pakistan WILL come in to picture. This is how our pet love-hate relationship works. ;)
I agree, this whole Ew-Pakistani vs. Ew-Indians is inevitable. But on the same hand, a decent and intellectual online discussion seems rather impossible to go on for a long period of time.
So I present to you Blacko's Law:
As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of quickened degeneration of a discussion approaches 1".
***I would agree with the basic concept of the Law however I would take it further that on a desi forum such as this an intellectual online discussion seems highly improbable for a long time without it turning into a character assassination .
I present Sheyn's Law
As an online desi discussion grows longer, the probability of it invariably turning into a character assassination approaches 1".***
^ Just in case you missed the point. The Godwin law IS about "NON-DESI" discussion forums. It's a sarcastic observation pointing out the meaningless & throwing petty accusations IN "non-desi" online discussions. In our desi-forums, we don't discuss Holocaust or Nazis, but we do have our own targets. I hope you can see the parallels here.
I question the authenticity of OP’s assertion that Godwin’s law, which concerns online discussion forums, was formulated in 1989. I base my observation on the fact that no such forums existed in 1989. :einstein_wali_smiley:
