So if you had to decide, to tread the path of asceticism or fall for the desires of a woman. Which would you choose?
Re: God or Woman?
Ascetism with woman sideby.
A religious guy bought two male parrots after being impressed by their devotion to God.
Both parrots read God's name on rosaries with their head bowing down all the time.
They would eat a little and share the meal given to them equally.
After meal they would go back to worshiping God and praying.
One day the man brought a very well behaved female parrot and decided to let her in the same cage so they
could talk to someone outsider.
As soon as one parrot saw the female bird he threw his rosary down and shouted:
"Look my friend look! All our prayes have been answered!"
Re: God or Woman?
The concept of fana and mystic union is wonderfully expressed by Mevlana Rumi in his Mathnawi and tells the story of a merchant and his parrot. The parrot symbolizes the soul of the merchant engaged in conventional life.
When the merchant decided to go to India, he asked the parrot if she wanted a gift. I only request that when you see other parrots in India, tell them a parrot who longs for you is in my prison by the destiny of Heaven replied the parrot.
In India, the merchant gave the message to a group of parrots, one of whom trembled and fell dead on hearing the news. The merchant felt sorry for the bird and presumed that it was somehow related to his bird.
On returning home, he reported the incident to his parrot. On hearing the news, his parrot trembled and fell down in a corner of the cage. After lamenting the loss of his bird, the merchant threw her out of the cage.
The parrot immediately flew off to a bough and the surprised merchant inquired what sort of communication had taken place between the two birds. The parrot said, the other parrot by her act said in effect yourself and stop singing so that you may be released and gain freedom.

Great story and message. But mine was better. ![]()
Anyhow, this concept is not new, very catching at a glance but have not seen it advised in Islam.
This is emphasized in Roohaaniat, and Rehbaaniat. These are merely extremes of thoughts.
Spritually one needs to be free of needs for being content, be happy and be shielded from depression and sorrow; but needs, need to be ‘controlled’ is the real message in religion.
The parrot used some form of deception didn’t it? A good one though. ![]()
(Perhaps this thread belongs to sprituality section)

Then you should have asked: Ascetism or steamy sex. :)
Over two thousand hits would be on that thread.

Re: God or Woman?
I don't see the correlation between the two.

Why must it be a choice? There are many variants of asceticism. There is no reason why you can't define it in your own way, it depends, I suppose, on the purpose for your asceticism.

Desires of a woman - never.
Desires of multiple women, ideally at the same time - certainly.
