god of small things

guys i have read this book "god of small thngs by arunaditi roy
and i felt this book is highly over rated
what do you say?

Crappy book !! It almost seemed as though she wanted to prove how well she could write. I mean she tends to unnecessarily describe things to such a detail that you tend to lose track of the storyline at times. I dont know how she got the Booker (I dont know what the criteria is).

I bought it few months back but have not read it yet. So no comments on that.
but my general impression of Desi English writers is not very good particularly when they start describing the local desi life they don't know a **** about. Most of them are burger backgrounds and pretty much detached from the desi cultures and languages. It seems like writing in english is their attempt at trying to connect back to their roots and at the same times make a good buck.
Lately I read a long and boring "What the body remembers" about pre-partition life in Punjab. The author has received many international awards for it and if she wrote the same in Punjabi or balochi no one would have noticed it. Desi English writers are crap and at the most wanna be westerns..unfortunately it is becoming status symbol in upper class desis to read this crap while brag how they can't recognize a word of Urdu, Punjabi, Bengali etc.

BTW that was the second famous 4 letter word...s.h.i.t...not the moswt famous:)
On the hierarchy of things going around here what use is saving our innocent souls from words like s.h.i.t.?

Chann,

I think u should read 'Hero's walk' and 'Tamrind Mem' by "Anita Rao Badami" she is very honest in describing Indian culture, she is trying to tell a story in her own way without catering to western audience or compromising her style.

I am currently reading "An area of Darkness" by V.S Naipaul, excellent book, great language, very honest.
