"Go to Pakistan to seek police protection"

Looks like some things have not changed since the Gujrat riots of 2002. The same muslim-hating police bias.

“Go to Pakistan to seek police protection,” was the response from the Vadodara police control room when retired deputy superintendent Momin Khan Pathan called last night.

If this was the answer a former officer got, there was not much the other residents of Kismet Colony could expect. But they kept trying, calling the police for help for hours as a mob gathered in the neighbourhood.

The police came, after a resident of the colony had been burnt alive by the mob.

Sarifbhai Kapali, whose wife is a municipal corporator, said he has never felt so helpless as he did when the police shut out their calls last night.

But if additional police commissioner V.M. Pargi is to be believed, the force was misled as a part of a conspiracy. “We were kept busy, police ran here and there. While the police force was held up somewhere else, the mob executed their nefarious game plan,” said the officer under whose jurisdiction the area falls.

“There was definitely some well-planned conspiracy. The power failure in the minority-dominated area was part of it. I’m sure somebody is behind all this.”

While power cuts are rare in Gujarat cities, several minority-dominated areas in Vadodara suffered a blackout last night.

But Pargi’s explanation is small consolation for residents who spent a night of terror and found the police “as biased” as it was in 2002, when more than a thousand were killed in riots across the state. The police looked like a puppet in the hands of the VHP and the Bajrang Dal, they said.

About two weeks ago, mayor Sunil Solanki had threatened to rope in these same saffron outfits if the police failed to provide security cover for demolishing a 300-year-old dargah that the minorities wanted declared a heritage structure, former deputy mayor Chirag Sheikh said. The demolition on Monday sparked violence that has claimed six lives so far. Solanki has denied the allegation.

Arson continued in the curfew-bound city, where two factories in the Sadar Patel Industrial Estate were set ablaze today.

Habib Hasanti, a young graphic designer, feels the demolition of the dargah was a pretext to instigate Muslims. “It was trap for the minority community. What Modi wants is to reap political dividends of communal polarisation in the city.”

Referring to the killing of Kismet Colony resident Mohammad Rafiq Vohra by a mob, Pargi said the police force is adequate for city areas but “we could not reach the spot on time. As it is, there are hundreds of distress calls to be attended”. The colony is located on the city’s outskirts.

Responding to the charge of police apathy, commissioner Deepak Swaroop said they were holding a peace meeting with leaders of both communities when last night’s incident happened.

That is no excuse for not responding to calls for help, Chirag Sheikh said. “Officials in stray vehicles abused us when we asked them to protect us,” he added.

Re: "Go to Pakistan to seek police protection"

This is proof that Muslims are being persecuted in India.

Re: "Go to Pakistan to seek police protection"

Gujarat is one of 35 states in India. There are more than 160 million muslims in India.Gujaratis are unique in their virulent religious fervour.Don't judge all Indians by their actions. And, remember, the President of India is a muslim. He sent the Indian Army in to Vadodara based on the GOI's request. Why didn't muslims in other parts of Gujarat and India then engage in mass protest over Vadodara?.All indians are often disgusted by the communalism in Gujarat. But still, all indians are our brothers and sisters. We overlook and carry on.Even the Gujaratis themselves. They fight and then carry on till the next flare up.That's how it is there.

Re: "Go to Pakistan to seek police protection"

why should there be "next flare up"? Who is responsible for that next flare? why are govt officials supporting such flares not prosecuted? why is POLICE (the supposedly law enforcing agency) telling people to look at other countries for justice/help?

Re: "Go to Pakistan to seek police protection"

"next flare up".....:D ...because it has been there since ages.Next flare...it could be because of any one whether a hindu or muslim. Government supporting?....vote bank. create sensation and get votes. Police telling it because they might be thinking that these very same people are not pro-india. It could be fanaticism of these police men or modi has asked them to give these replies:D .

Re: "Go to Pakistan to seek police protection"

shouldn't such "govt officials" be locked up? prosecuted? or does it mean that those state officials or backed by higher govt officials?

[/quote]
why would POLICE think that those people may not be "pro India"? just cuz of religion? Thats a big accusation, don't you think? so what do you think those Muslims should really do? what options do they have?

Re: "Go to Pakistan to seek police protection"

If above story is true, there isn't any excuse for the same. Simple reason had it been real Pakistani than... Police is suppose to keep law and order and not being law and on themselves........
Before people jump saying this is a true story, where are differences there are confusions..
Once in SouthIndia during heydays of language movement, I was asked to talk in local language by Police, and they refused to take report in Hindi, though some of them were speaking Hindi...
If above has happened its wrong and can't be supported......... Just go ahead as Indians and try to see that it doesn't happen in future......

Re: "Go to Pakistan to seek police protection"

Confusions of what? people doubting each others' loyalty to nation/country?

Re: "Go to Pakistan to seek police protection"

Yes, some people can lose prespective and I have given example related to language. That didn't make all Hindi speaking jumping and fighting with rest, as whole Muslim world just jumps whenever there is a muslim issue, like some kind of Union...
People shouldn't lose prespective. Though following are the reasons why people lose prespective and question loyalty (All from personal experience) and read in media as well. Not adding some of the individual comments of personal experience if not corroborated by media reports..
1. If i get sweets (I did get) distributed by some Indian Muslim friends when India loses.
2. I hear - Ok, if India fails I can always go to Saudia Arabia or any other Islamic country.
3. I put religion above country, so don't touch any other Muslim or I will fight within.
4. We were rulers for so long, we will again rule one day with help from across the border..
Again nobody should lose presepective in nation building and above that Police should never at all. They are like Doctors, you don't look at patients personal back groung to treat him. Just provide security, keep law and order that's the job..
Though Captain should look at many things in prespective of complexity of heterogenous society that India is......

Re: "Go to Pakistan to seek police protection"

^ This explaination is much better than your previous one :), it does put things into prespective, but as you agree police/LEAs should be the last one suggesting that because that further fuels the emotions and circle of fire only grows.

Re: “Go to Pakistan to seek police protection”

2 Muslim kids found dead in Gujarat

New Delhi, May 18: The bodies of two Muslim children were recovered from the car of a local VHP leader of Dabhoi town, near Baroda, with injuries marks on Thursday afternoon, resulting in tension in Baroda district. The two children, aged five and seven, were found from the car of Dr Jagdish Pankhi, who is a doctor. Dr Pankhi himself informed the police about the bodies of the two children in his car. Baroda Range IG Rakesh Asthana said, “The children were found with injury marks on their bodies but it is only after a post-mortem that we can know the cause of death. We estimate that the children may have been dead for over 24 hours but again forensics will be able to give more specific details.” He said the police is investigating the matter and that the car belonging to Dr Pankhi was being used though the doctor reportedly said that the car was not in use for over two years. Mr Asthana said that although there was tension owing to the recent violence in Baroda, there was no untoward incident and the situation was calm. However, there were some reports of stone-pelting in the area and also at Dr Pankhi’s house in Dabhoi after news of the children’s death spread. The two children’s names were Taher Hussain, 5, and Salman Sheikh, 7. Sources in Baroda said that the bodies of the children were cut up. Locals feel that either the children were victims of a tantrik or they became victims of an organ transplant racket. A complaint regarding the disappearance of two children was lodged with the police two days ago. An official said both the bodies have been identified as those of the missing children. Baroda town had recently been rocked by communal violence, which claimed six lives, following the city civic authorities’ demolition of a 200-year-old dargah.

Oye 6613 posts....... nobody is absolutely prefect.... if you use same logic in any scenario everybody will stand isolated..

Since there is no prefect person...... So you won't talk to him.
No perfect group - So you won't discuss with them
No perfect country - So you won't interact with them

Sirjee........ You learn to live with inconsistenicies .... and try make life for everybody pleasant.......... :-)

Re: "Go to Pakistan to seek police protection"

Oye 6ixer satte pe satta, when someone invites u over for a pleasant friendship banao program, u dont talk political bull crap when ur drunk...anyway, just shows how ignorant indians are & how they can & they never will live with the fact that pakistan is a seperate state. Ye baat inke liye ek naasur hai.

Re: "Go to Pakistan to seek police protection"

Very sad. Why things in Gujarat are in such a bad shape.

Re: "Go to Pakistan to seek police protection"

Its India's fastest growing state economically, as well people living in Gujarat doesn't want to go anywhere else....
Yes communal tensions are bad, since there is politics of vote bank... This will continue... since that's the only place as of now ... where BJP has been able to consolidate Hindu vote bank..
they are providing in general good governance and economic growth as welll

Re: "Go to Pakistan to seek police protection"

Yes, and above posts again shown how narrowly you are thinking... The point I am making is that one Feroz khan/ or one policeman doesn't mean that you start generalizing Indians........ Samjhay to achhaa... nahin to achhaa

Re: “Go to Pakistan to seek police protection”

Many Muslims said that the policemen told them on phone to go to Pakistan for seeking help. Also, a BJP leader said in ND T.V. channel discussion that why these Muslims don’t migrate from India as Qur’an also sanctions hijrat (migration). This is chocking to say the least.** Such brazen statements would not be tolerated in any other country and would not go unpunished.**
