THE Shi’ite Muslim cleric tipped to become prime minister after next Sunday’s election in Iraq has said it will be the duty of the new government to demand the withdrawal of American forces “as soon as possible”.
“No people in the world accepts occupation and nor do we accept the continuation of American troops in Iraq,” said Abdul Aziz al-Hakim, leader of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq.
“We regard these forces to have committed many mistakes in the handling of various issues, the first and foremost being that of security, which in turn has contributed to the massacres, crimes and calamities that have taken place in Iraq against the Iraqis.”
Now instead of a relatively stable and secular pre-invasion Iraq, we’ll get a shiite theocracy aligned with Iran and opposed to the US. Tehran stretching from Balochistan to Jordon, bet the Isrealis are pissed too
OK Mr. Bush…here is an excellent chance for you to demonstrate your commitment to democracy…Mr. Bush, you are the champion of democracy and as per your inaugural address 2 days ago, it is your responsibility to spread democracy every where in the world. So how about if you show some respect to the desires of Iraqi people… if the newly elected Iraqi Government demands an immediate withdraw of USA troops, I hope Mr. Bush would ‘heed the call”………

Cool! Fine with me.
(He will be dead in 24 hours, and the country will be in full blown civil war in a week however)
its a great line to use in order to avoid looking like a sell-out to the people....but who the hell is gonna defend this guy from sunni militants (at least long enough for Iraq to get back on its feet and restore security)? the Iraqi security force? lol, gimme a break.
Theres no need to go all in a huff and forecast such terrible events. We all know the forces would rather stay in Iraq cause they really love the Iraqi people but i’m not so sure people will relish the idea of living under an occupation, no matter how friendly the occupying forces are. I dunno maybe its something in thier water, i cant really tell.
these are just election promises people.. great "Anti American" campaign slogans to get elected to office.. since when did Politicans start honoring them?
The U.S. never wanted to make Iraq part of the U.S.
Just because you have paranoid thoughts that ‘America is out to get Muslims’ doesn’t make it true. You really thought the U.S. was going to occupy Iraq forever? You silly little sheep.
That said you can bet your balls the U.S. will protect its interests with the resources it has available to it. Welcome to reality.
It all boils down to how much control the the ultimate ‘ruler’ of Iraq can get, televised abu ghraib’s and the like didn’t happen that much under Saddam, carte blanche if the amreekis are out so stands to reason surely.
That wanna-be Prime Minister sounds an awful lot like GW Bush. "We will get out of Iraq as soon as possible and not a minute before." Before you all start banging your drums, maybe you should try to find out how the wanna-be defines "as soon as possible."
May i remind you what happened 12 yrs back when Iraqi forces supposedly amassed at the Saudi border, and were all set to unleash. Hell US even had “satelite pictures” to prove it.
that is true undie, amreeka is never kicked out, NEVER…amreeka left NK so gracefully that there is no parallel in human history… Then it left Vietnam the same way, my my my it was red carpet treatment all the way… Now it will leave Iraq like a goooooood little boy that will put both NK and Vietnam to shame. … Now lets have the spin you silly little piglet ! so far you have done a very pathatic job.
Ma:
We all want our homies back as soon as possible. That’s the point. The Iraqis want them to leave and we want them to come home. The wanna-be Prime Minister hasn’t set forth any new revelation. He didn’t say he demands they leave tomorrow. He didn’t say next week. He didn’t say next year. He said "as soon as possible. " Whoop de doo. That’s GW’s policy too.
The wanna-be’s sound bite might sound good to the ignorant and will probably get him a few more votes. But once he’s “in”, he will want to stay “in.” If the Shias know one thing by now, it’s that an awful lot of Sunnis aren’t just going to sit back and let them govern Iraq peaceably. They also know that while the US can’t guarantee the greatest level of security and protection, the US can provide more security and protection than an alternative without US troops. So they will demand the US leave as soons as possible and define what that means when the time is right.
What does it matter if they decide or are told to leave? This testoserone-driven, chip-on-the-shoulder philosophy hasn't gotten the Muslim or Arab anywhere and contributes to believing ghairat comes from honor killings and acid facials.
Well then leave. Come on, or wait do you wanna build up and attack Iran. Let me see How many countries did Hitler attack and take over before the world stepped in and intervened?
