Another thing you want to avoid is clicking the "to delete your name from future mailings". I haven't needed to do it before, but I would suggest selecting the messages from the sender in your inbox, then click the report spam button.
^ Why? It seems to work (unless they have programmed something else that happens OTHER THAN removing you from the list)
Uncle One of the things I like about gmail is that it groups your e-mails of the same subject. If you and I are going back and forth in an e-mail, instead of having 10 different e-mails, you will have 1 e-mail and in the () it will say the number of messages for that subject.
Not only that, you can also search within the mail. It helps me a lot because I don't delete mails and when I have to look up an old e-mail, instead of going through so many pages and reading e-mails and looking for the sender's name, I just type a few phrases in the search box and it brings up the e-mail that contain that word.
The interface is nice, not to mention about 3 GB of storage. Spam filter works pretty good and many more things.
It’s one of the fundamental rules of dealing with spam… if you click that link, you’ve just validated that your email address is legitimate and more spam can be sent to it (as opposed to a dormant account). A lot of the spammers act as email collectors and they can now sell your email address to other spammers.
The best way to deal with spam regarless of the service provider is to report it as spam… there’s usually a link/button provided in the interface of your email client for this.
^ That's what I do: Report spam. The only reason why I don't remove myself from their list is because I simply don't want to take my time to open the e-mail and then find the link and click on it. I simply select the message and report spam. But I am glad to know and I now know the reason why one shouldn't do it.
by clicking on any such link in any spam email, you make sure they send you more and more spam.
Because by doing so, you confirm to the spammer that YOUR email is a valid and active email address, so they can get to work, and your email is then permanently added to their spam database.
SO! remember.. never EVER reply or respond to any spam yo receive. Add it to blocked senders and just delete it. Thats all.
