Even though Gmail gives us a ton of space (10GB), if we don’t keep the mailboxes free of litter they tend to fill up. I’ve been using Gmail for 5-6 years now and never thought my mailbox will go through this kind of accumulation.
Over the years I have sent and received a ton of attachments. Most of them I never needed to keep or is redundant with the file storage that I have elsewhere. I often tried to see if I could find emails with huge, useless attachments, but was never able to. Google never wanting us to delete anything, added to this dilemma.
I guess they are changing their minds about this whole phenomenon. They just introduced a whole bunch of filters that would make searching for various criteria much easier. Some of the search terms include pretty self explanatory ones like:
[table=“width: 500”]
**From: and To: **
Sort by sender or recipient
**Filename:**
Search for an attachment by name
And now to nifty fields like:
[table]
**older_than: and newer_than:**
Similar to older and newer, but allows relative dates using d, m, and y for day, month, and year
Example: newer_than:2d - Meaning: Finds messages sent within the last two days.
**has:circle**
Search for all messages that were sent from someone who you added to your Google+ circles
**size:**
Search for messages larger than the specified size in bytes - Example: **size:1000000**
**larger:** and **smaller:**
Similar to **size:** but allows abbreviations for numbers, Example: **larger:10M**
