Globe Trekker

This is an awesome travel show that airs weekly on PBS. Related to it is “Pilot Guides” which just started broadcasting internationally (in Canada, it’s the ‘Outdoor Life Network’ channel that shows their programmes).

Last week one of their presenters, Neil Gibson, presented a show regarding Pakistan. Like most of you, i’ve seen dozens and dozens of tv shows regarding Pakistan - discussing travel, history, culture, religions, politics etc etc. But this one was done unimaginably well - the presenter was fantastic. i think what made the difference was that he mentally opened himself to exploring the culture fully; everything was discussed in a balanced manner, not focusing upon either the positive or the negative too much. He started in Karachi and travelled all the way north to Hunza valley. He really immersed himself in the culture and that came out in the show. i think he’s my favourite Globe Trekker presenter now. i saw this one show done regarding India by this lady, on the same Globe Trekker series, and it was absolutely horrible. She seemed to have lots of biases against the country and culture even before she had stepped there.

Unfortunately their website doesn’t give access to video clips of this particular episode, but you can read the write-up regarding Pakistan here: http://www.pilotguides.com/tv_shows/globe_trekker/shows/asia/pakistan.php

If possible, any globetrotters out there should really watch the show… for you folks in the States, here’s a listing of the different stations that carry it http://www.weta.org/gt/ For Canadian Guppies, if you have access to PBS, then it airs Thursday nights on PBS.

Nadia, Thanks for sharing. I will forward this to few people at work. This is good info for them.

:flower1: Thank you, Amir.
