We’re all aware that all of the authentic hadiths of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.) are indeed true words, and many of those hadiths have already come true in one time/way/shape/or form. Though most are still debated today by both muslims and non-muslims alike.
But, i think we, this generation, may be able to see another major hadith come true. The hadith is that of global warming, which ushers in another ice age and coming war.
Let me expand on that:
The hadith is “When the black flag army marches from Khorasan, join them even if you have to crawl over ice”. Now remember the audience for this hadith is our Arab brothers of the time who lived in desert and could not imagine there being Ice.
The scenario as is developing is that everyone across the globe is concerned about global warming. Scientists have already reminded us that an ice age will certainly occur again, just as the previous ice age was around which made trans-atlantic travel possible by foot and in the shape of caravans. Thus making earth one huge mass.
Now if you think about how refrigration works, the first action is heat which in turn cools the temperatures and is followed by frost/icing.
The reason i connect our current atmoshpheric phenomenon to the hadith is because, the Prophet (s.a.w.) specifically made mention of “crawl over ice”. Could it possibly be an indication to us about coming event(s).

Wa Alaikum Assalam Teggy.....all the glaciers and both the polar Ice Caps are receding and shrinking........Ocean Levels are rising..........the Ice age may not happen for another thousand years.......unless there is a sudden shift in the poles!

An ice age may occur without global warming anyway … all that is needed is for Krakatoa to erupt like it once had to cover the atmosphere in particulates and blotting out the sun. An ice age could occur in a matter of a few years, I have been led to believe.
Also, according to the videos I have seen the ice age will bring the deserts into forests and the equatorial regions will become very lush but everything else will be frozen. I think it is unlikely for the Arabian plains to become icy in an ice age. However, the mountains of all regions even today especially the high ones are frozen and the hadith will correspond with another hadith that states that we should flee from the Dajjal and live in the mountains or caves even if we have to eat from roots of trees or something like that.

brother teggy, let's not stretch ahadith and insert our own interpretations. The messenger of Allah (sal-allahu 'alayhi wa salam) is simply speaking in metphorical langauge.

smile; can you please elaborate on how I stretched the meaning of the hadith? I'm surprised at your comment considering that you promote the idea of ta'weel. The dhahir of the hadith isn't that people should literally crawl over ice to join the mujahideen. The dhahir of the hadith is that Muslims should join these majahideen, no matter what have to do or what situation they are in. Thus, we understand the dhahir by taking the majazi meaning here. I asked an ustad about the meaning of this hadith and he replied:Although this hadeeth's classification is disputed over but it is more closer to weakness than being hasan.
Anyhow, there is no indication to ice age or whatever imagination that people have!! The hadeeth is crystal clear and the meaning of the last part of it is a figure of speech that Arabs to show that need to do something even if it was difficult to do.

Fair enough. And i agree we shouldn't inject our own meanings into things that we do not understand. But, it is natural for us to connect current events with the sayings of our Prophet (pbuh), to gain an understanding.
That is why i posed the question. JazakAllah khair all for the replies though.

doesnt necessarily mean the ice would be everywhere does it. there might be Muslims today who might need to cross ice to get to Khorasan, although i agree with AllahkaBanda, its metaphorical most likely.

If i remember correctly in 2004 a research conducted by Princeton published that 800 million years ago poles were shifted to north to south and south to north, the possibility of this happening again is 50/50.
An earth quake, Sonami, meteor-collision, gravity ..can change the poles with-in moments, and possibility is their. December 2012 (no mayan stuff), the Solar system will be in one line, it never happened before in the recorded history … anything is possible at that time.

Yup Agree,
It does not have to be an ice age. It can be a polar shift..which means that if the polar shift causes one of the poles to end up near the middle east anywhere....the ice sheets will be in that region and the other areas will begin to thaw.
