Post 9/11 have we been heading in that direction, and should we be doing more. can we draw paralles between strife in society and the global issue. The issue of have’s and have nots, and the have nots being told that they are in a bad position due to the “haves”
Just like you have community outreach programs, community development programs, efforts to improve opportunities etc etc for people in urban ghettos which has an impact on reduction in crime rates, general strife etc.
This is exactly what was being said about afghanistan after the war, taht to prevent the country from sliding back into chaos it needs to be rebuiklt and stabilised and supported. I think proactiveky same should be dont to other countries as well, whether its education, communication and media. These are the only things that will halt the availibility of fertile grounds for breeeding of extremists led by self servicing “leaders”
This extremism was exported out last year, people living in some of the countries in the region have been dealing with this for years. The sectarian violence in pakistan is a testament to that.
This is a role we all have to play, the world community, the individual country, its leaders and population. How do we get there, and how are we doing in that regard? I would be interested in seeing some perspectives.
Education has to be a key and favorable economic/employment conditions in those countries, including Pak.
One can ask what led those 19 persons to fanaticism that fateful morning, after all they were well educated.
5abi educated yet ignorant. I have seen people like that in pakistan as well they may have gone to school and may have degrees to show for it but are they any more aware, did it expand their horizons. I see such people here as well educated yet ignorant. That is what we have to overcome and battle.
It's not just about have's and have-nots. Many people live happily with very little all over the world. Say what you like, but OBL and others like him have been able to cash in on genuine grievances in the muslim world. The only way out of this is give and take, otherwise the cycle of revenge will continue.
Sep 11 terrible though it was, also gave an opportunity to the world to finally settle some long-standing disputes which needed to be settled. My opinion is that if the US had managed to show a similar hard line with Zionist zealots in Israel that they have shown with muslim regimes they could have achieved anything.
Once they address that issue I believe that the support base for muslim hardliners will disappear. All it will take is for the US to demand an implementation of UN resolutions that illegal settlements be dismantled.
Here is a practical solution which can easily be implemented and scupper once and for all accusations that the US is run by a Jewish lobby. The alternative of course is to try and wipe out the oppositon ala Cowboy Bush. That might work in the movies but I can guarantee it won't work in real life.
