Global conspiracy behind PPP’s defeat: Rabbani

**Global conspiracy behind PPP’s defeat: Rabbani

KARACHI: The world establishment is responsible for the defeat of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the general elections because they want to form the government to pursue their own agenda, said the PPP deputy secretary general, Raza Rabbani, on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, Senator Raza Rabbani said his party accepted the election results just for the sake of democracy in the country.

He said the PPP and other liberal forces were barred from running their election campaigns on the instructions of the world establishment and it was one of the factors that played a hand in his party’s defeat.

The senator said the PPP would play constructive role as the opposition and monitor the performance of the new government.

He said that it was the responsibility of the new government to resolve major issues like terrorism, adding that his party would support the government in rooting out terrorism.

Rabbani said the PPP emerged as the second largest party in the country and the people of Sindh gave it majority mandate to form the government in the province. The PPP accepted the mandate of all parties and others must accept the PPP’s mandate, he added.

He said the PPP had set a seven-point agenda to play its role as the opposition and see what would be the policy of the new government on economic issues, employment, price hikes, trade unions, provincial autonomy, education and health.

The PPP will criticise the policies with suggestions and play a positive role for strengthening democracy, he added.

The PPP leader said his party had protected democracy and prevented the derailing of the system. He hoped that the new government would also protect the democratic system.

He said the new government must assure the nation that it would ensure the implementation of Articles 172, 157 and 158 that protect the rights of the province to utilise their resources like gas and electricity.

The senator said the nation wanted to know what would be the policy of the new government regarding the Gwadar Port, which was handed over to China, and the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project.

Why simply they don’t concede that they let the whole nation down like never before? Why there has to be a conspiracy against them everytime? Is there conscience really clean? Are they really satisfied with their performance? Just when they will start talking about their performance instead of saazish and shahadat?

Re: Global conspiracy behind PPP’s defeat: Rabbani

Of course, Israel ordered Rental Power Plants.

Re: Global conspiracy behind PPP’s defeat: Rabbani

Let them remain oblivious to the exact reasons for their ouster, as the next time there will be a bigger global conspiracy. :cb:

Re: Global conspiracy behind PPP’s defeat: Rabbani

For one, its no secret that overseas influence played a heavy part in determining the exact plot in these elections. Secondly, while I dont agree with Rabbani, I do think that regardless of their performance, they should have been able to bag between 5 and 10 seats from South Punjab. PPP has accepted the results because they really had nothing to go by this time around. But to ignore rigging is tantamount to being a pigeon with closed eyes. If we say that 'this is how it always happens...and this is how it always will be', then this is exactly how it always will be.

Re: Global conspiracy behind PPP’s defeat: Rabbani

No mention of their nemesis aka load shedding!

Re: Global conspiracy behind PPP’s defeat: Rabbani

^^^
On what basis you are saying that they should have won 10 seats from South Punjab. As far as I know.. my several friends from South Punjab were indicating total wipe out of PPP from South Punjab.. and I was indicating this in my posts fro last 6 months.

Re: Global conspiracy behind PPP’s defeat: Rabbani

Food for thought!

Why is that in Pakistan people talk of Incumbency Disadvantage

In US for instance, incumbency is an advantage. 5 of the last 8 US Presidents won re-election (Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, Bush Junior and Barack Obama). Gerald Ford was indirectly elected. Only Jimmy Carter and Bush Senior did not win re-election

Now you may say that it is a different form of democracy (presidential)

Ok let's look at Britain which has a parliamentary system of democracy

Margaret Thatcher won 3 successive general elections between 1979-1990 (had to leave 1 year early because of party revolt)
Tony Blair 1997-2007 won 3 straight general elections as well (again forced to quit 2 years early because of dissent within party)

This proves that the elected governments in Pakistan are by and large a disappointment

Kaam khud karte nahin, loot maar mein lage rehte hein aur ilzaam conspiracy par..

Re: Global conspiracy behind PPP’s defeat: Rabbani

The same basis which allowed them to come out as the majority party in Sindh. Their vote bank was never based on performance....even in times of BB. It was always a biradri/gaddi/wadera/bhutto vote bank. And even with dismal performance, they would have had some following in their strongholds. Its like PTI in Karachi. They did break into MQMs vote, but MQM still commands a majority vote bank based on similar factors.

Re: Global conspiracy behind PPP’s defeat: Rabbani

I have several friends in Multan.. they all predicted a total wipe out on 6 six Multan seats. You can see from the election results that 90% of the total polled votes in Multan were shared by PTI and PMLN.. who shared 2 and 4 seats respectively from Multan. I was in touch with Muzzafargarh and Rahim Yar Khan.. people from these areas were indicating the same.. PPP just got one seat in the whole of South Punjab which was not a PPP seat but Mukhdom Ahmad Mehmood's seat in RYK.. his son won on this seat. South Punjab is not Sindh.. people of South Punjab do not share ethnic sympathies with PPP.. for them corruption, load shedding, inflation and pathetic governance were bigger issues as the rest of Punjab..

For me South Punjab results were exactly predictable..

I was just wondering if you ever spoke to anyone from South Punjab before coming to these conclusions..

Re: Global conspiracy behind PPP’s defeat: Rabbani

That is not exactly the most reliable criterion for determining who wins and loses, is it? Yes, I have spoken to many people from all across the country but what our personal contacts, who number in the 10s or 20s at the most feel, cannot reflect the mood of hundreds of thousands of other voters who we are not privvy to. Look at central Punjab. PTI had a very good mandate...but there is a large chunk of rural voters who do not vote based on facts, but based on who they have voted for perennially. A major part of my own family is a part of this unfortunate phenomenon. Just to say that our contacts say so is not enough.

Re: Global conspiracy behind PPP’s defeat: Rabbani

But now we have the actual voting patterns.. and they also indicate more or less the same story. If 90% of the votes in Multan city were polled to parties other than PPP.. then you can safely safe that there was an incumbency factor in Multan against PPP... It was not just rigging which can maximum be factored at 5% of the total voting results.. and I am sure it must have gone both ways.. not just 5% rigging swing in one direction..
