Not sure if you have had much experience with visitors trying to give birth in the uk down your way but I have a tale to tell.My neighbour applied for her sister in laws visa whilst she was pregnant. When she got here they called the local GP to arrange a midwife appointment. The midwife visited them and during routine paperwork asked for immigration status. When they said visitor she told them they should look onto private healthcare or returning to Pakistan as she wouldn’t be able to treat her and as far as she knew the hospital would bill them in the region of 11-22K UK pounds to give birth in the Uk as a visitor.Needless to say they sent the girl packing.I still chuckle at their belief the baby would gain child tax credit etc for being born in the UK.

Haven’t had any experience of this happening in my immediate family but I know of plenty of instances where this has happened as recently as a few weeks ago. I don’t know why so many people assume that they or the child will get citizenship just because they were born here but it doesn’t stop them from trying. If nothing else I guess they save the cost of giving birth privately in Pak as the NHS is rather a soft touch…if a woman turns up in labour then they are hardly going to send her away. They don’t register too early as they know they won’t be paying the money to go private so deliberately leave it too late.
