Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

In my opinion no insane person can work for a single day hearing all kinds of slurs, insults and threats from present leaders. Mush should have opted out the day PML (N) and PPP won the majority seats. Read the following threat by NS to Mush.

Nawaz Sharif says government will review terror policy

ISLAMABAD, March 25 (AFP): Pakistan’s new government will review the country’s role in the US-led “war on terror,” former premier Nawaz Sharif said Tuesday after holding talks visiting US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte. Sharif said he wanted peace around the world but did not want Pakistan turned into a “murder-house” to achieve that aim. “We discussed terrorism, we informed them our point of view is that since 9/11 all decisions were made by one man,” Sharif told reporters. “Now the situation has changed, a truly representative parliament has come into being… every decision will be presented before the parliament, they will review Musharraf’s policy in the last six years,” he said. Sharif said that a parliamentary committee would be set up “which will examine this and international concern and then keeping in view national aspirations will give recommendations.” Negroponte and US Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher also held talks with Musharraf, although details were not immediately available. They were also set to meet prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani. **“Pervez Musharraf used the “war on terrorism” to perpetuate his rule. No cabinet and no parliament was taken into confidence in any of his decisions. That is why it did not have popular support,” Sharif said. He said both the US and Pakistan want to see the world “free of terrorism” and for innocent people not to suffer. **“We want to see peace in every corner of the world and we want to see peace in Pakistan also. We do not want that in order to give peace to others we turn our own country into a murder house,” he said. (First Posted @ 16:00 PST, Updated @ 16:20 PST)

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

what is Nawaz's plan to deal with Taliban and al qaeda types? what will nawaz do if ppl based out of FATA go and blow someone up across the border or in a diff country?

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

NS is not saying anything new here. Most Pakistanis have known this all along. Mush used the war on terror for his own political gain and kursi while Zia-ul-Haq used sham Islamisation and Soviet invasion of Afghanistan as tools to prolong his kursi. I am not completely opposed to war on terror (such ghoomay huey, back-ward thinking terrorists and murderers deserve no mercy). But Mush should have taken his hand-picked PMs, cabinet and 'rubber-stamp' parliament in confidence in all his decisions. It was a one-man show all along. He should also have combined force with political diplomacy. I know he did try to talk to these Talibans but there was always a reluctance on his part to seek full mufahimat because of Washington's opposition to negotiations and deals between the militants and the Pakistani military. Washington viewed short-term peace deals as a sign of weakness because this in their opinion gave the militant's winning time to organise and fortify themselves. Had Mush taken the parliament in confidence on all important issues incl. 'War on Terror' and Lal Masjid Operation despite the American pressure, he would have earned respect in the eyes of the ordinary people even as a military dictator. As it is he now finds himself very isolated.

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

If Nawaz Sharif is so sincere to the cause of restoring or getting the innocents released....Then why does he not work to get A Q Khan released??? NS is the biggest goon of the lot, his words have no credibility.

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

Pakistani public thinks otherwise, hence the heavy mandate in Punjab.

On the issue of credibility, Musharraf doesn't have any either. He has gone back on his word so many times, it's hard to keep track.

But then again, to each is own. Different strokes for different folks. Everyone has their heros and villains.

I have to agree with GoldenAsif, he should have taken the ministers and public in confidence to give his decisions credibility.

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

Ya ......a Pakistani public that has been kept at 28% literacy rate.

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

hahaha please watch what you write...you are almost confessing that Mush has done nothing in the last 8.5 years..

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

Pakistan’s literacy ratio is 49.9% (I somehow don’t believe that figure)

Pakistan Literacy - Demographics](Pakistan Literacy - Demographics)

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

Hahaha please watch what you write..As if Musharraf is the only person ruling Pakistan for the last 61 years.

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

What a let down, dude!

This is nothing.

Its a political discourse where people frequently disagree on policy positions. There is really no insult here. When I clicked on this thread, I thought some one gave gaaliyaaN and swore/cursed Mushy. Aitezaz frequently launches into much more blistering attacks on Mushy. This is no reason to leave an office, or country. Well, actually, it could be, but grown-ups, especially politicians have much thicker skin; and they have to bear this kind of disagreement, otherwise they can’t survive in this very rough profession.

Mushy actually has not that thick a skin. Remember, only recently he (or his govt) expelled 3 British journalists for calling him “sonofab**ch”, even though they used it as a term of some historical context and probably did not mean to personally disrespect him.

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

Because he's not an idiot?

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

^That is one of the promises of his election manifesto.

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

Call it reading your mind or post but Kamran Khan of Geo asked someone from PML(N) this question just ealier. Kamran Khan asked, if judges could be freed with just an order from the PM, then why not the same for AQ Khan.

The response was 'Because AQ Khan is wanted by international forces. We do not want any incidents taking place. We have high respect for him because he gave us the Nuclear Technology. We would not want to risk his safety by allowing him to leave his residence until there are proper steps taken to insure the security'

What do u guys make of that? Does he speak the truth or is it a cock n bull story?

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

Was Musharrfa also doing the same over the last few years?

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

^Quite possible. I have no objections to that. Atleast he wasn't handed over or allowed to be questioned by foreign investigators, etc.

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

uncle do have something else in your mind?

and what if the allegations put on AQ khan were all wrong.

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

Then they need to be proven.

Re: Give credit to Mush for tolerating Insults

This how it has become a routine for him to listen all kinds of nonsense from a person he kicked out from PM’s post and banished from the country. shatranj ki baazi palat chuki hay. shayad Mush ko yeh nahin samajh main aaraha hay!

Parliament to decide key issues, top US officials told: Asif, Nawaz refuse to give any assurance about Musharraf

By Amir Wasim
ISLAMABAD, March 25: The Pakistan People’s Party and the Pakistan Muslim League-N have refused to give any assurance to the United States about the future of President Pervez Musharraf, saying that every matter would now be debated in parliament.

In separate meetings with US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte and Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher on Tuesday, leaders of the two parties said they wanted to make parliament a sovereign institution and all policy issues, including the ‘war on terror’, would now be discussed there.

The US officials met PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, Shahbaz Sharif, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Ishaq Dar and Ahsan Iqbal at Punjab House.

Later, a PPP delegation comprising chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Rehman Malik visited the US embassy to meet the two officials.

Mr Negroponte also called on President Pervez Musharraf in the evening.

Political analysts said the US officials’ visit was aimed at defusing a possible confrontation between the new parliament and the presidency.

Another purpose of the visit, they said, was to seek commitment from the new coalition government about Pakistan’s role in the war on terror.

Anne W. Patterson, the US ambassador, was conspicuous by her absence from the meetings.

A US embassy official, however, said the ambassador did not attend the meetings because she was away from the capital.

Mr Sharif said at a press conference he had told Mr Boucher and Mr Negroponte that the Pakistani nation had given its verdict on Feb 18 and now there would be no more ‘one-man show’ in the country.

He said he had told the US officials that since Sept 11, 2001, only one man had been taking crucial decisions, but now the situation had completely changed.

“Now an individual has no right to make fundamental decisions. Now every matter will be brought to parliament,” he said, adding that soon a parliamentary committee would be formed to review the policies of President Pervez Musharraf.

Mr Sharif said the US officials had been told that there was no doubt in the minds of the people of Pakistan that President Musharraf used the war on terror only for his personal gains. He said as the president had never taken the parliament or the prime minister into confidence on the war on terror, he did not have the nation’s support.

“Pakistan wants to see peace in every country, including the US. However, to ensure peace in other countries, we cannot turn our own country into killing fields,” Mr Sharif said in categorical terms.

He said he would again advise President Musharraf to respect people’s mandate and step down. “Mr Musharraf should not become a burden on the shoulders of parliament and he should provide an opportunity to the new assemblies to elect a new president.”

The PML-N chief said he also told US officials that Mr Musharraf was an ‘illegal president’ and he should go.

In reply to a question, he said President Musharraf the only people left with President Musharraf now were his security adviser, Tariq Aziz, and spokesman Rashid Qureshi.

“The police, administration, parliament and the people of Pakistan are not with Mr Musharraf and it would be better for him to realise the situation.”

In reply to another question whether Washington had expressed concern over deposed judges, Mr Sharif said they were not looking at the US for the restoration of judges.

A PPP source told Dawn that the party’s leaders had informed US officials that they wanted to continue the “war on terror” because it was in the country’s interest, but a strategy would only be finalised in parliament.

According to a foreign ministry handout, US Deputy Secretary of State John Negroponte met President Musharraf and discussed “bilateral relations and the political situation in Pakistan”.

The president said that moderate parties had emerged victorious in the elections and the new prime minister and his government would enjoy his full support.

Mr Negroponte assured the president of Washington’s continued commitment to Pakistan’s endeavours for socio-economic development. He underscored the importance of Pakistan in combating terrorism and extremism.

The president said Pakistan would continue to pursue a comprehensive strategy to counter terrorism.
