When I was in college and started working part time and looking for work, my mother warned me to never ever ever go on lunch dates with male bosses/male coworkers, “jaise TV aur movies mein hota.”

Deep down inside people have to admit there is something risque in doing this and that is part of the appeal. In reality nothing comes of it ... but the thoughts do wander and the spouse does have a right over our wandering thoughts don't you think?

Of course not. Working with the other sex is fine, but socializing or lunching together...sorry not done in my book. Because as someone else already said, just because someone is married, this wouldn't stop them from being attracted to the other sex. Therefore one shouldn't put oneself in situations where there is a risk of being attracted to someone else. I mean...if it's a group lunch then it's fine. But why do a man and woman have to go for lunch alone?
There is a very good reason we are told that when a man and women are alone, devil is also there.

No, not really.. Every relationship is different. I and my husband have been together for almost 8 years. We pretty much grew up knowing each other. He and I never dated other people. Honestly, we don't know what it's like to go out on a date with another person. Why would I then let my man have lunch with another woman and possibly introduce him to the world of dating. :D Yes, we both are a little insecure when it comes to this. Deep down I know he will never fall for another woman and he knows I won't fall for another guy. Why would I risk what I have for a stupid lunch? I just know it's not okay with him and I respect him enough to refuse to go on lunch with another dude at work. I work with ALL men. They ask me every damn day to have lunch with them. I don't! Do I want to? Sometimes and I have no hidden motives to do so but I still don't
I am only speaking from my perspective. I am not passing fatwas here and there for everyone.

on serious note, its depends on dynamics, frequency, time-spent and the woman. Its not the matter of trust or no trust. If its pre-planned, cozy restaurant lunches, time and time again then even drop of water falling continuously on stone breaks it eh?

I am quite surprised at the answers - I never really thought there was anything wrong with lunch with guy colleagues, and tbh my lunches are social, not work-related. We play catch up on each other's lives - I know all about their partner/wife, kids, homes, travel plans and they catch up on the details of my life. As someone else pointed out, it goes back to intention and trust.

Women actually need not worry about this bcos even though their husbands spend time with better looking female coworkers; those women might not even take a crap on their husbands.
a man, on the other hand, needs to be worried if his wife has male co-workers who are better looking than himself. a woman can easily have affairs with goodlooking men at the workplace.

i dont know about that. no one does. But i do know that its far more important for a man to be goodlooking in order to attract women for affairs and sexual relationships, than the other way round. kinda paradoxical aint it… ie, if we assume you are correct ?

I think most women look for security and comfort, not just looks. But that's probably just my opinion.
