Need to lose 5-10 pounds. So I borrowed some exercise videos from a friend. One of them is ‘Kathy Smith’s Ultimate Sculpt’ and the other Windsor Pilates. So far I have been a treadmill only person with some stretching thrown in . Since I no longer have access to a treadmill now, I thought I could try something different. I know that light to moderate exercise is OK during periods. But can anyone advise if it is safe to do pilates during periods. Also the Kathy smith video has some exercise for the abs, glutes, hamstrings, abductors etc. Many of the moves need hand weights and I need to lie on my side and back for some of the exercises. So is it safe to do these during periods or not ?

I do all of those anytime. Shouldn't be a problem.

No Don't.. I never do it, u can do light execises like walking, doing house chores etc

Why should working out be a problem during periods/??
in fact i always read opposite, for women who work out regularly, their periods are less bothersome and suffre less of teh symptoms (normally speaking).

The older women always say not to workout, lift heavy weights, drink coffee or chew ice during that time of the month. I can tell you that I have done one of those which is eating ice and it’s not been good ![]()

^ i agree...i dont even drink water out of the fridge...when i am on my period....you have to be verrrry careful...rest the first three days.....take extra care of yourself.
no heels.
no cold showers.
keep your back covered up..keep it warm..

i think you should be fine working out, etc, and sara is right, being fit makes your period more manageable.
staying away from cold stuff or super spicy stuff its good advice though. you're already cramping, no need to make it worse! i find a hot water bottle is the best companion when you have your period.

I do everything during my period.. Except workout. Not because I shouldn't, just because I get so lazy and blah that I don't feel like doing anything.

Ive done Pilates and its goooooooooooooooooooooooood stuff. I have also done it during my period and for some odd reason I get tired quicker. It just aggravates my cramps so I dont do anything too heavy.
However, I do get on treadmill. Regardless of my period, I get my iPod and jam away.
