Girls names

Are these names allowed in islam for girls?

Hannah
Tara
Tania
Salena

Or can anyone suggest some names which are allowed in islam but also english sounding? Thanks.

Re: Girls names

Don't know about the above ones, but few ones that are allowed are:

Sara

Sarah

Maria

Re: Girls names

Allowed by whom? Culture warriors? Any name in any language is allowed as long as it is respectful and doesn't go against Islamic teachings. It is only for cultural reasons to give Arabic names.

Re: Girls names

any name with good meaning and non-pagan origins is allowed:)

Well, by that straw even many now Islamic names have pagan origins :P

A new just cannot be specifically for another religion (such as the name "Christian," which is obviously Christian).

Re: Girls names

so r there any specific names that r supposed to be islamic????

Re: Girls names

^ u cannot name after goddesses and things like that

Hannah is best - Mother of Mary (AS)

Tara - star/hill sanskrit/celtic - wife of shiva and roman goddess may be a connective word in Qur'an

Tania - variant tanya - from tatiana Russian - Tatian Proper name of kingly Roman clan who ruled over Sabiens - Sabiens are named in the Qur'an.

Salena - From Hindi Salena and Celena Greek (Moon)

Re: Girls names

Re: Girls names

very religious and quite unique :)
though if u wanna go for an english sounding names ummm go for Amber or Ambar either way.

Re: Girls names

My name—> Halima

Peace

Slav origin - sonja - means 'wise' - this name is also acceptable. People need not keep Arabic names, but the meanings need to be 'good' ...
