Re: Girl Names
yasmine has been a long-favourite of mine, but my husband's brother chose that for his daughter. her mother is persian, so they went with jasmine instead of yasmine, but its the same name, essentially, so boo! haha
j'adore amani. its my top favourite, followed closely by amelle and amalia which are both variations of the arabic word "amal" meaning "hope / aspiration".
zayna/zaina is also really pretty.
Re: Girl Names
My name (real) is Mominah... and I love it!
Re: Girl Names
well me and my sisters have most unique names (many people then copied them)
*My sis's is *
Naveen- ray of sunlight that gives hope
and Laiba.. which gets common now... but I havent seen any Laiba older than my sis.

I like Amani too, but hubby doesn't like it for some reason.
Okay, so ideally I'd like a name for my girl that played off mine in someway (either being about morning, sun, moon, or maybe starting with S, altho I don't want to restrict it).
Re: Girl Names
Khashya
Noreen
Aleena
Dania
Ramsha
Enaya
Alishba
Durria
I didnt have time to get their meaning too....
Re: Girl Names
Rameen is one of my favourites too. and the other day i heard Amara, which is also very pretty. can’t remember the meanings of either of those though, but i’m sure you can look it up.
sahar, how about:
**HALA **هالة: Arabic name meaning "moon halo."
**MAHA**: Arabic name meaning "moon."
i also really love Eliana… i just came across it and even though it has Hebrew origins, not Muslim ones, i think the name and its meaning are gorgeous- Nickelodeon Parents | Printables, coloring pages, recipes, crafts, and more from your child’s favorite Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. shows.
speaking of which, since Jews are ehlay kitaab, are we allowed to use hebrew names?

Irina or Ayrina
I teach at a Jewish School. Do you know how many Sahars I have encountered? TONS! Hebrew and Arabic have a lot of similar roots. I don’t think the language matters as much as the meaning.
My only concern is that I DO want my children to preserve some of their Pakistani heritage in their names. I know that since my Urdu isn’t amazing and neither is hubby
s it’s going to be hard for us to teach them. I want something to keep them connected.
Thanks for the suggestions, guys!
Irina or Ayrina
Meaning?
The girl’s name Irina *\i-ri-na* is a variant of Irene](Irene - Name Meaning, What does Irene mean?) (Greek), and the meaning of Irina is “peace”.
sahar, thanks for the clarification! yay! eliana’s made it on to my list ![]()
i totally understand the pakistani heritage thing. since my hubby is european, its way important to me too that our children’s names reflect a mixed heritage, and not be entirely anglo or entirely desi.
