No you can not, and that is why I noted maids or nannies. the point i was trying to illustrate was that you can get servants anywhere

*Can we start something at our homes rather than waiting for some govt miracle.. *

That would be a good start, but laaton kay bhoot baaton say naheen mantay, not only will u need govt danda at some point to "convince" others to stop this practice, you will need to make sure that this does not go on in a more hidden manner.

*can we do some home chores by ourself and give some hundred ruppess to family as a help and keeping small kids where they belong - their homes. *

I dunno, u have lived there, would a large number of ppl be up for it? and the other issue is that would the parents of these kids look at the money coming in and keep it but then have the kid work somewhere else?

Thats why I said u need a comprehesive solution which looks at all issues and then deals with them..bannign children from working will impact their familiies wellbeing and thus the child's wellbeing, the importance of education, as well as convenience should be increased, and poverty decreased..that is a long term solution..how one gets there is a much togher issue

The most important thing we always miss is the kid .. what is the most important thing for a kid in life.. home and family.. we can never do justice in hope of giving a better place to live .. if u give choice to kids they will go happy back home.. I was just refereing to people who say they are doing a favor while keeping small children as servants.. until and unless it is views something inhuman and against human dignity with proper laws no one will listen.. but on individual basis we can start something right in our families.

why are people constantly missing the point? such utopians.. wave a wand and every one gets an education..

yes it's not fair.. but would it make you happy to know that most of these girls become a valuable financial resource for their families so that at least some of their siblings can get that overrated 'edumacation' to add more jobless to the pool.

The girl who my grandparents had as a domestic maid (she was 16) had her wages all seized by her own father and brother, who used her money to finance their own holiday to the Northern Areas.

The situation is somewhat similar to the illegal Mexican immigrants in California who work below the minimum wage.

Its a reality. Its an unfortunate reality. Do we have to live in the society and adopt its ways for survival? Perhaps yes. Should we be complacent about it? Probably not. Are the two mutually exclusive? Don't know and can't be bothered to think about it as long as I am comfortable...?
