Earlier ShivSena/ VHP/ RSS disturbed the shooting of film ‘Fire’. Now they are protesting against release of film ‘Girl Friend’. They oppose ‘Valentine Day’ and MacDonald’s Hamburger.
Hindu fundamentalist say that it is an attack on Indian culture.
Is 5000 year old Indian & Hindu culture so weak that a two hour movie or a hamburger can destroy it?
Violence erupted in two Indian cities Monday as protestors demanded a ban on the Bollywood film Girlfriend, objecting to its theme of alternate sexuality.
The protestors tore down posters and banners of the movie that was released Friday. They smashed windowpanes and name boards of cinema halls screening the film. Attacks on theatres were reported from Varanasi and India’s financial capital Mumbai.
Senior Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader K.S. Sudershan told reporters in Nagpur, Maharashtra, that such movies should be banned as they threatened to corrupt society with bad thoughts
its sad to see that these days bollywood is making movies in this kinda subject… its not just in india but i have friends over here in college although they enjoyed watchin the movie but still they were still schoked to seee their movie standard has gone that low…
i'm not against movies about this subject since ultimately art describes the human condition and homosexuality is a part of our reality, like it or not. However, from the reviews of this film, it seems to be a sleaze movie centered around exploitation rather than any sort of exploration of the human experience so the film should be shunned by all. However, people who protest movies should remember that often you can have the reverse effect by offering free pub.
It is the same Bal Thackeray who is behind these protests who is living with his daugther-in-law after bindhas throwing his son Jaydev out of his house. I guess humping one's own bahu is ok for him but not a film like GF.
Is it just me, or are Indians more conservative then they think. Im surprised to find that a lot of Muslim countries, Egypt for example, can make far more provacative and sexually charged films then India. Take the Egyptian film "Behind Closed Doors" for example, which actually has sex scenes and lip kissing. Try that in an Indian film, and see how far it gets...
i was angry when i started watching the movie but after a while i was left with warm sweet feelings and i felt tingly . i found out that i love lesbians. God bless them.
