Gillani's US/UK Tour

So the tours start again! Will be meeting the two candidates for the US presidency as well… Zardari did not accompany him, like it was earlier suggested, which is a good move. It would be interesting to see the outcome of his talks with the two candidates.

Terror fight Pakistan’s own war: Gilani -DAWN - Top Stories; July 27, 2008

LONDON, July 26: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani has described the war on terror as Pakistan’s own war — a war to defend peace in the country and to contribute to world peace.

Talking to the media at Heathrow airport after his arrival on Saturday en route from Islamabad to Washington, the prime minister said Pakistan was fighting terrorism in the interest of its own progress, prosperity and development and not to “oblige any outside entity”.

He was replying to a question regarding the recent statement of US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice urging Pakistan to “do more on terrorism”.

He said he would be meeting Ms Rice in Washington, “and I will be able to inform you how the talks go after this meeting”.

In reply to another question, he said that at the political level India-Pakistan relations were on course. “I have congratulated Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on winning a vote of confidence and perhaps I would have an occasion to meet him in Colombo during the Saarc summit.”

He gave an impression that the recent statement of the Indian foreign secretary that relations between the two countries were under stress after the bombing outside the Indian embassy in Kabul would not make any difference to the ongoing peace process.

Mr Gilani said Pakistan and India shared a lot of commonalities and “we have decided to settle all our outstanding issues, including the Kashmir dispute, through dialogue”.

He rejected a perception that his government lacked coherence and said he was in full control of the government and those who believed otherwise were being misled by rumours.

In reply to a question, he said he had no plans to meet Nawaz Sharif in London. “Media reports to the effect are untrue.

“There is this impression in the country that the leaders of Pakistan meet only when we are abroad and do not do so in Pakistan. So we have decided not to meet when we are in foreign countries. Mr Sharif also agrees. He will be coming to Pakistan soon and I will make a courtesy call on him then,” he added.

The prime minister was received by High Commissioner Wajid Shamsul Hasan and officials of the HC.Mr Gilani’s entourage includes his adviser on interior Rehman Malik, Information Minister Sherry Rehman and Minister of State for Economic Affairs Hina Rabbani, PM’s press secretary Zahid Bashir and Foreign Office officials.

Re: Gillani's US/UK Tour

It's not just a tour. It's much like a New World Pilgrimage that all new leaders must make in order to cleanse their dirty political souls and get a Yes-Nod from the Western Capitalists and a pat on the back.

Everything else is just a feel good story told to remind people they have a misrepresented representative.

Re: Gillani's US/UK Tour

^ and to get the details of "To-Do List".

Re: Gillani's US/UK Tour

Some people are saying this trip is good because it will give Washington the confidence to start trusting the people's govt rather than their old failed dictator turned politician ally who has dissapointed them bigtime because of his 'dogli' policies. I hope that is true.

Re: Gillani's US/UK Tour

Accepting something good for the people of Pakistan, from USA and our so-called elected leaders is like living in fools paradise.

Nor America niether our leaders are in mood to improve the living condition for us, PM like Gillani has gone there just to say hi hello and get a new list of demands. nothing else will come out of this tour.

One thing i forgot, where the PM is staying and how many persons are there in his group, mean to say, how much will this tour cost us? Our PM could have got this list by fax, which would have been lot more cheaper, but as i said, accepting these leaders to do something good for Pakistan or for people of Pakistan is accepting Devil preaching Quran.

Re: Gillani's US/UK Tour

sigh What have we come to now? Gilani should be given a crash course in Pakistani Foriegn Policy and our strategic interest. Our Official state visits should look as follows:

  1. China - first and foremost.
  2. Saudi Arabia.
  3. Malaysia
  4. Japan

Then some time into 2 years of his premiership should he go to the US or Europe.

Dude does the word INCOMPETENT means anything to you?

PPP was handed down the power because of deals by US not Saudi, China, Malaysia or Japan. You have to say salam to the king-makers first.

WASHINGTON - President Bush on Monday praised Pakistan's new leader as a reliable partner in confronting terrorism, a show of confidence meant to signal that the United States and Pakistan are working well together despite tensions between them.

An upbeat Bush took a unified stand with Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who was making his first White House visit since coming into power in February elections. His party’s former ruling leader, Benazir Bhutto, was killed in a terrorist attack on Dec. 27.

“Pakistan is a strong ally and a vibrant democracy,” Bush said after he and Gilani strolled from their Oval Office meeting to greet media on the South Lawn.

Who says Gilani is not the “actual” PM of Pakistan… See he is meeting Bush in his own capacity with Musharraf or Zardari besides him.

Re: Gillani's US/UK Tour

^ His english is pathetic. He can't speak 2 full sentences.

Re: Gillani's US/UK Tour

^ I agree. If we had to have another toothless PM Shortcut was better. At least he had good command of the English language.

If i had to caption the picture, this is what the Pakistani people in there may say:

Sherry: Ugh i could’ve been at Daman-e-Koh…

M. Shah Mahmood: What a sad trip

PM Gillani: I told Zardari to come along too

Ch. Mukhtar: We’re screwed, aren’t we?

The next 2 guys: Hey look my Gameboy stopped working.

Lady in Blue: Gillani, you disappoint me!

Someone feel free to add the American side

Re: Gillani's US/UK Tour

PM Gilani: abb kiya kahon angrezi mein ..... mujh say tou ziada angrezi boli nahin jaati.

Bush: What language is he(Gilani) speaking.. Doesn't sound English.

Sherry: Yeh Juice tou bahut maizay ka hai.... Condi sey recipe poochon gi.

Condi: Mr Bush let me try to understand whatever he(Gilani) is saying.

First guy on US Side(condi's left): Let me check out the Menu.

Second guy on US Side(condi's left): Where is my fork?

Michael Chertoff: Hey guess what, being the director of HLS is not so difficult then to undertsand this guy's(Gilani) English.

Nancy(US ambassador in Pakistan): I told you(Gilani) to learn some English, or simply speak in Urdu, we would give you a translator.

The next 2 guys: Hey look my Gameboy stopped working. **Rehman Malik and another idiot

Lady in Blue: Gillani, you disappoint me! **Hina khur ... disappointed her??? when and where??????

He has to first report to the boss who cuts the paycheck.

Re: Gillani's US/UK Tour

Oh, from the sounds of reports so far, the visit seems to have been an unmitigated disaster, nothing less. Ghilani and co have managed to convey and confirm image of Pakistan govt as a bunch of buffoons who have no idea how to govern or control the jihadis or ISI.

Re: Gillani's US/UK Tour

^ Gillani made comments about his tour today. He defended himself and said that it was only the Pakistani media that criticized him, but he is alright with that because this was the media that highlighted him when he was rotting in jail. He also said that he has made it clear to the US that they will no longer tolerate Musharraf as the president. Based on the statement today by the US, the latter is true because this was termed as PAkistan's internal issue, surprisingly.
