PPP nominates Makhdoom Shahbuddin for new PM
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has nominated the name of Makhdoom Shahbuddin for the office of Prime Minister, sources said.
According to the sources, the decision was taken in a meeting of senior leaders of PPP held here on late Tuesday under the chairmanship of President Asif Ali Zardari.
The meeting also decided that the National Assembly session would be summoned on Thursday for the election of the leader of the house, sources added.
Earlier, sources said that former prime minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani had expressed reservations over the name of Shahabuddin during the meeting of coalition partners.
Coalition partners entrusted President Asif Ali Zardari to nominate new prime minister.

That's a good question. Does disqualification mean he can't even remain active part of the CEC/Internal Party Politics?

Yes, last I checked he was barred from politics and holding any public office for next 5 years. 
Don’t know how that will feature into his internal politics inside the party, but I guess that remains to be seen. For all practical purposes it is too much to expect from PPPP to expel Yousuf Raza from the CEC and party meetings. But let’s see.

Kiya kertay ho!!! Swiss courts say ziada bias court tu puri duniya maiN nahi hay, iss say acha tu yeh hay kay Pakistani SC hi trial ker lay! ;)

The development in Multan and Seraiki Province were two items that Gillani would have used to cement his hold on South Punjab, especially since he had started projecting his son (I think Abdul Qadir Gillani) as a possible Chief Minister. Now if some one comes from the same area and really manages to form the province, the politics of Gillani would die down. Its all matter of personal interests.

He has already been proven innocent as he has been acquitted in 1001 cases by Pakistani courts. All cases were politically motivated, my Zardari cannot even steal Rs 1.

The same is the case with Chaudhary brothers, they woudnt want Ahmed Mukhtar. On one side these people portray themselves as champions of the people of a particular area but on the other they cannot even think of having someone from those areas from their own political parties to serve the area. Its amazing that YRG has been crying about the 'biased' attitude of Punjab towards South Punjab? Now what is his attitude? Is this also due to Takht e Lahore?

**Islamabad: Makhdoom Shahabuddin Qureshi, who has been short-listed as one of the candidates for the prime minister’s slot by the Pakistan People’s Party after the disqualification of Yusuf Raza Gilani, is likely to be arrested anytime by the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) in connection with the ephedrine case, country’s leading English daily The News International reported on Wednesday.**Quoting a well placed source in the army-led ANF the newspaper said “Qureshi’s arrest is a matter of time and He can be taken into custody anytime”. The ANF has been investigating into the drug case also involving the son of outgoing PM, Ali Musa Gilani.The paper said a Supreme Court bench, headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, had already directed the ANF to arrest Shahabuddin, who had approved the ephedrine quota. Shahabuddin is being considered for the slot together with Chaudhry Ahmad Mukhtar and Syed Khursheed Shah, with majority betting on him as he belongs to south Punjab.it said the investigators had undeniable evidence of Shahabuddin’s involvement in the ephedrine case. “He was the man who being the health minister issued quota to Danas Pharma,” The News quoted the official as saying.The ANF last summoned Shahabuddin in May for interrogation and he admitted issuing a quota but pleaded innocence, saying he was unaware of the purpose and persons behind the move.Hearing the ephedrine case on June 7, the Supreme Court questioned Brig Faheem of the ANF as to why Shahabuddin had not been arrested even after it was established that he had approved the illegal ephedrine quota.Brig Faheem had told the court that bureaucracy was creating hindrances for the ANF to proceed against the suspects in the case.
