Now lets see if the esteemed Maharaja dares to address the parliament, as required to do so. The fun begins, and also looking forward to the excuses perpetrated by the Mushy supporters here. Lets hope Musharraf comes, and is greeted warmly by the new parliamentarians :hehe:
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday asked President Pervez Musharraf to address the joint session of parliament as it was a constitutional requirement. He said the president was a part of parliament and his address was mandatory under the constitution. The prime minister said their stand on the sovereignty of the parliament was vindicated when the president said he would respect any decision of the parliament. Earlier, PML-Q member Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada said that according to the Constitution, the president should address the National Assembly session at the commencement of each year.
JOINT SESSION: In response to a question, the president said that he would only address a joint session of parliament if the speaker and all political parties assured him that they would listen to him with discipline.
“I don’t consider it a requirement” was the president’s reply when a questioner asked if it was no constitutionally binding on him to address the joint sitting of parliament at the beginning of each parliamentary year.
Re: Gillani asks Musharraf to address parliament as required
No really, what is the point? To prove that Musharraf is not liked by the esteemed feudals, mullahs, crooks and other assorted people of the parliament?
Musharraff isn't above the law, and neither are feudals and other crooks. After Musharaff's departure Pakistan will not suddenly become heaven on earth. Musharaff is part of a problem, not the problem.
Re: Gillani asks Musharraf to address parliament as required
^ Oh no need to get emotional, no one is talking about feudals, or crooks or musharrafs departure. We are just awaiting Musharraf to address the parliament like he is supposed to do, according to the constituition. We expect our great elected president to uphold the norms of parliament and obey the law like he expects his colleagues and people to do so
Btw, I am not a fan of both GI Khan and Farooq Leghari, but both of them had the guts to address the parliament and face the music in the line of fire!
