Gilgit ATC sentences Mir Shakeel to 26 years imprisonment**
The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) of Gilgit-Baltistan on Tuesday sentenced the owner of Geo Television and Jang Group, Mir Shakeelur Rehman to 26 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1.3 million for broadcasting a blasphemous programme.
The court has ordered the Inspector General (IG) Islamabad, IG Punjab and IG Sindh to arrest Rehman through Interpol. The ATC has also ordered to seize Rehman’s passport and property.
Rehman was accused of blasphemy after Geo Television broadcast a programme which allegedly insulted the family of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
The show’s anchor Dr Shaista Wahidi has also been handed a similar sentence.

the only thing I remember about Dr shaista is that she was cute now thats definitely is not a face of a blasphemous.
Yar some qawwali was played in a morning show which was also relayed in 2 other channels but considered blasphemy. All political game IMO and shortsighted super-emotional Pakistanis become the tool inhand.
گلگت بلتستان کی انسدادِ دہشت گردی کی خصوصی عدالت نے جیو نیوز کے مالک میر شکیل الرحمٰن، میزبان شائشتہ لودھی، اداکارہ وینا ملک اور ان کے شوہر اسد ملک کو 26، 26 سال قید اور 13 لاکھ روپے جرمانے کی سزا سنائی ہے۔
منگل کو انسداد ہشت گردی کی خصوصی عدالت نے 40 صفحات پر مشتمل فیصلہ سنایا اور انتظامیہ کو چاروں مجرموں کو فوری طور پر گرفتار کرنے کا حکم دیا۔
انسداد دہشت گردی کی خصوصی عدالت کے جج راجہ شہباز خان کے مطابق چاروں مجرموں کو برگزیدہ مذہبی شخصیات کے بارے میں توہین آمیز کلمات کہنے پر تعزیرات پاکستان کی دفعہ 298 اے کے تحت سزا سنائی گئی ہے۔
جج شہباز خان کے سیکریٹری وقار احمد نے بی بی سی کو بتایا کہ ضلعی انتظامیہ سے یہ بھی کہا گیا ہے کہ عدم تعمیل کی صورت میں مجرمان کی جائیدادیں فروخت کر کے رقم حکومتی خزانے میں جمع کروائی جائے۔
وقار احمد نے مزید بتایا کہ 26 مئی 2014 کو جمع کروائی گئی درخواست میں شکایت کی گئی تھی کہ مجرموں نے ٹیلی ویژن پر ویڈیو چلا کر برگزیدہ شخصیات کی شان میں گستاخی کی ہے جس کے بعد صوبائی انتظامیہ نے جوائنٹ انویسٹی گیشن ٹیم تشکیل دی تھی۔
یکم ستمبر کو اس ٹیم نے مجرموں کے خلاف وارنٹ لیا تھا تاہم کراچی جانے کے باوجود چاروں میں سے کسی مجرم کا سراغ نہیں لگایا جا سکا۔
عدالتی حکمعدالت نے اپنے فیصلے میں چاروں صوبوں کے پولیس حکام کو ہدایت کی ہے کہ مجرمان جن میں جیو نیوز کے مالک میر شکیل الرحمٰن، میزبان شائشتہ واحدی، اداکارہ وینا ملک اور ان کے شوہر اسد ملک کو گرفتار کر کے ڈسٹرکٹ جیل منتقل کر دیا جائے۔
عدالتی ذرائع کا کہنا ہے کہ مجرموں کے وکیل شہباز علی نے عدالت کو یہ نہیں بتایا مجرم کہاں ہیں۔
وقار احمد کے مطابق میر شکیل الرحمٰن، شائستہ لودھی، وینا ملک اور ان کے شوہر اسد ملک اس فیصلے کے خلاف گلگت بلتستان کی چیف کورٹ میں اپیل کر سکتے ہیں جو ہائی کورٹ کے برابر ہے۔
یاد رہے کہ رواں سال 14 مئی 2014 کو جیو کے ایک مارننگ شو میں اداکارہ وینا ملک اور ان کے شوہر کی شادی سے متعلق ایک پروگرام کے دوران برگزیدہ ہستیوں سے منسوب ایک قوالی پیش کی گئی جس کے اندازِ پیشکش پر مختلف مذہبی اور سماجی حلقوں کی جانب سے شدید تنقید کی گئی تھی۔
اس پروگرام کے نشر ہونے کے بعد مذہبی تنظیموں کے کارکنوں نے اسلام آباد میں پیمرا کے دفتر کے سامنے مظاہرے بھی کیے جن میں جیو کو بند کرنے کا مطالبہ بھی کیا گیا۔
جیو چینل کے مالک پاکستان کے میڈیا ہاؤس جنگ گروپ کا کہنا ہے ’اٹھو جاگو پاکستان‘ نامی پروگرام میں میزبان ڈاکٹر شائستہ لودھی سے غیر دانستہ طور پر غلطی ہوئی ہے۔
ادارے کی جانب سے اس پروگرام پر کھڑے ہونے والے تنازعے پر معافی بھی مانگی گئی تھی۔
جیو نیوز کے مالک اور شائستہ لودھی سمیت وینا ملک اور ان کے شوہر کے خلاف اسلام آباد اور کراچی سمیت مختلف شہروں میں مقدمات درج کروائے گئے ہیں۔

Everyone involved in that incident has apologized. We should move on instead of beating around the bush in that incident.
I dont have any sympathy with Mir Shakeel Ur Rehman for the tactics he use in yellow journalism but what does he has to do with the incident anyway? If anything its the responsibility of the producer & host of that show.

What authority does some court in GILGIT of all places have anywhere? WTH?
ATCs were established in response to terrorism and have a big mandate. They were 'designed' to provide quicker resolution to cases related to terrorism and speedy trials.
However, they are now only used for political purposes now. I suspect it was easier for military to find a 'cooperating' judge in Gilgit.
ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan held a detailed meeting with journalists from Geo-Jang Group Tuesday at his Bani Gala residence.
A JournalismPakistan.com source says the journalists requested Khan to end boycott of Geo-Jang Group and send the party representatives to appear in Geo TV talk shows but he declined. Khan, however, said that his party held nothing against working journalists from the group but he and his party opposed the polices of Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman, the owner of Geo-Jang Group.
He also appreciated role of media and efforts of working journalists in strengthening democracy, rule of law and highlighting human rights violations.
“Had there been no independent media in Pakistan, the PTI wouldn’t have emerged as the third political party despite its best efforts,” Khan was quoted as saying.
Then journalists present in the meeting included Rana Jawad, Hamid Mir, Tahir Khalil, Bilal Dar, Mumtaz Alvi, Maaz Ahsan and PFUJ President Afzal Butt.

A pretty silly case to begin with, accompanied by a lopsided verdict. But its interesting to note that MSR managed to fly out of the country after the verdict was announced. I was under the impression that once a person even had arrest warrants issued, he/she is automatically put on the exit control list...and here we have a person who is convicted and sentenced (even if its a shady sentence), and the person manages to fly out? Govt is complicit no doubt.
