Gilchrist Changing the way the game is played

Games pre gilchrist you would see number 7 batsmen take there time batting and hitting the occasional ball to the boundary - they were seen as last line of defence if the team had a long batting line up - nowadays he has turned test cricket on its ears and gave it an almighty wedgy - to have a batsman of gilly’s caliber attack the bowling as though he was batting against club cricketers is making other teams stand up and taking notice - they are there for a win and will take no prisoners - draws dont enter the equation - it is strange but hearing ppl talk about a test match with the aussies in it - they say they cant wait for gilly to go into bat - he is excitement bigtime - he is getting backsides onto seats and he is a number 7 batsman at that - when was the last time a number 7 batsman has been talked about so much that it he is attracting ppl to watch the game .

he has livened up what normally would be a run scratching innings from a number seven and usually to babysit the bowlers when they come into bat

he has made test cricket more attractive to follow for some that look for that in there viewing - i like it too but the whole game interests me - it is just amazing how he throws caution to the wind and backs himself to the hilt and wont die wondering whether he should have left a ball alone or not - some in this forum have said these days test cricket hardly goes for 5 days - it is players like gilly that gives the team the opportunity to drive home a win alot sooner - dont get me wrong - he isnt a one man band - the bowlers have to do there jobs as to the rest of the batsmen but he bats at such a rate that most teams would drag a draw - he makes the impossible to possible when he gives the team a chance

he is one very talented batsmen with an eye like a hawk and reflexes of a cat - who comes close to him i would be interested in finding out

Gilly rocks!!!!!!!!!! My fav player

Re: Gilchrist Changing the way the game is played

Maybe Pakistan could achieve the same if it put Afridi in at 7 rather than make him open. You know he’s going to be out soon and it just puts pressure on No.3 batsman. He is better placed to go after the bowlers when they are tired, which is his natural game.

Re: Gilchrist Changing the way the game is played

Afridi is no Gilly.

What a great player to have in your team!
